Mr. Majestic Wins in Splendid Fashion

In a dull card of seven races framed for Thursday's racing at Mysore, jockey Melvyn stole the thunder by guiding home three winners during the afternoon. The first three races were framed for horses in the lowest class that are stabled at Mysore. To start with, the attendance was poor and the betting windows reflected the lack of betting interest amongst racegoers who had come to watch the proceedings. It all picked up as the day progressed and ended on a high note when two well fancied horses from the Darashah stable won their respective races. The T V Reddy Memorial Trophy was the feature event in the day's card. This mile race for horses in the highest class had attracted eight runners. The betting was confined to the Appu ridden World Peace and Vinod Shinde's mount Sandokan. The two of them reached the starting gates as joint favorites. It was an eventful start as World Peace got left at the gates and took off only after the rest had gone past the 600 metres marker. The supporters of Sandokan became quite optimistic as they saw their horse running close behind the front running Mr. Majestic. But it was not to be, as they saw Melvyn pull out the stick and guide Mr. Majestic to a splendid victory. It was left to Penny Tweedy and Brown Sugar to run into place money as Sandokan faded from the scene. Mr. Majestic is trained by Rakesh who completed a double for the day, while this was the third victory for Melvyn in the afternoon. It all started in the opening event when Melvyn took the 30/1 outsider Khoka to the front and held on to win from the well supported Full Steele. Full Steele's stablemate Ranveer, who was expected to run a big race, was another runner who got left at the start. Right Fantasy was a fair third. Melvyn’s third winner came astride a chance ride he got on Turbanator. With jockey Jagadeesh reporting sick, the connections decided to entrust their ward to Melvyn and he made no mistakes by riding a copybook race on him. He got Turbanator into a striking second position before the bend, and pushed him to the front thereafter. The horse drifted out onto the outer part of the track and this led to an objection against him by the second placed Golden Flowers. Since Turbanator was clear of the runner-up at that cricial stage, the objection was rightly thrown out. The well backed Way to Wealth was a close third. A neat gamble was landed on the Rakesh trained Record Time who was ridden to victory by his brother Rajesh. In a race wherein the highest rated horse was rated at 9 points, the winner had the dubious distinction of having a negative rating. Punters bravely backed this horse and were delighted when he came from the fourth berth and swept past the frontrunning Don's Delight and Yorker. The other class B race was won in a similar fashion by the Bobby trained Dashing Affair. This winner was seen sporting heavy bandages in the paddock, and was therefore neglected in the betting ring. Artic Princess and Sunlaa ran suggestive races while finishing behind the winner After a heavy drubbing at the hands of the bookmakers in the early part of the day, the punters had a lot to cheer about as Darashah and Gnaneshwar combined successfully to win the last two races with favorites Millenium Force and Dancer's Wave. Millenium Force won in a blanket finish from a fast finishing Buddy and Haley's Comet. The last named was unfortunate to miss the kick and should be followed in his next outing. Dancer's Wave was an easy winner of the last race as he made all the running and permitted jockey Gnaneshwar to look back for possible threats. Ardmore and on Call were no match for this three year old who competed in open class for the first time in his career. It was a day of doubles for Rakesh, Vishal Yadav, Darashah and Gnaneshwar but none could match the treble ridden by Melvyn.
