-

Keeping a severe set back at bay, Red Rose to glory within a short span of five days when she emerged victorious in the South West Zone Plate, which was the main event at the Delhi races on Monday. Trainer Aleem Khan was the lone professional to earn a double.

Bharat T Singh-trained Red Rose, who had failed to live upto expectations on debut, while finishing third to Shaaranga in the Haryana Meadows Stud Cup, looked a bit trimmed galloper. Irrespective of the maiden outing over the shorter trip, the connections made her to travel 300m more with a waiting tactics.

The daughter of Duja and Bellagio, who had shown the speed in the last venture, was kept in the fifth position over the seven furlongs. The favourite Slip Away, who took up charge from Master Faster at the top of the homestretch, looked all set to romp home until Red Rose's telling turn of foot made him scapegoat inside the last few yards. She should complete an encore. Slip Away should make amends.  Tiny Temper finished impressive third ahead of Ashwa Jugnoo. Who never came out of the shadow of forth position.

Aleem Khan-saddled wild Power returned to the winning ways after a gap of two seasons. Earlier, the bay mare of Flitch and Running Power had caught the eye, while finishing impressive sixth among the top class runners in her last essay. Taking an advantage of that terms race, hardly there was a room for defeat in the lower class. However, she looked struggling against Kerry Blue and Zoombastic, who finished close second and third respectively, in the Jammu And Kashmir Plate. The beaten duo will achieve success sooner or later. Audacious Queen, who ran fifth, bears watching.

In the North East Zone Plate which was earmarked for the class three horses, Syed Hassan Abbas's Afea proved her mettle under the guidance of apprentice jockey Dhanu Singh Deora. The aged mare has been a top class runner and was taking on the horses who has not been able to reach the level barring Jovial. Gold Spark, who was alerted to the task at the bend, warmed up late to collar Afea in the last 100m. The gelding should soon taste victory.

Alabaster ran on to be a notable third with forward run. Aleem Khan's chrage Narmada justified the top billing by making every post a winning one in the Academy Takenpur Plate. Northern Surprise, who received interference in the early stages, Game of Talent and Master Arts finishing in the same order behind the winner, are capable of raising winning gallop.

The upper division of the Border Security Force Plate saw Whiff of Money completing an encore in start to finish manner. Aali Janab tamed Ashwa Aparna, who was running after a gap of four months since the last outing at Pune. The latter will be followed upto seven furlongs. In the lower division of the event, the hot favourite Truculent Star just managed to maintain wire to wire attempt despite drifting out in the last furlong. Warrior Race, who was trying to foil his bid, raised an objection against him for hampering his way in the crucial stages but bore no fruit. His run should be best forgotten.
