Trainer L V R Deshmukh leading Aegis (P S Chouhan Up), winner of The Sardar Mohan Singh Bagga Memorial Cup

On a day dominated by favourites, Aegis (RoyalKingdom-Adventure) from the stables of L.V.R.Deshmukh was confidently piloted by P.S.Chouhan, to justify the cramped odds in the Sardar Mohan Singh Bagga Memorial Cup. The seven furlongs trip for horses in category II, was the feature event of the day’s card at Hyderabad, on Monday. Lone Ranger led the field till entering the home stretch, with Aegis in close attendance, while the other runners were also closely huddled. Inside the last 300 metres, Aegis moved ahead fluently and won with ease. The Leader improved to finish second, ahead of Drayton.

It was a back-to-back double for Chouhan, having successfully partnered T.Srinagesh’s Ziv (Hammerstein-Simply Beautiful), in the opener, the lower division of the Hovercraft Plate. Ziv, who had remained a maiden after ten runs, responded readily to Chouhan’s command and went ahead on entering the straight. Home Coming rallied towards the inner rails, to finish second in front of Kohinoor Glory.

Jockey A.Imran Khan was the only other jockey to ride a double. His winners came through Invincible India and Cypress Way. The 4 year old Invincible India (Ministers Wild Cat-Pretty Excessive) moved effortlessly to a maiden win in the Makalu Cup, run over 2000 metres. On entering the final straight, Imran guided his mount to get past the front running Gabriel and he was sighted a winner long way off. Silver Lid finished second, well ahead of Star Striker.

K.S.V.Prasad Raju’s Cypress Way (Sussex-Flight Fantasy) scored a maiden victory in the higher division of the Hovercraft Plate. Settled in third position till the top of the straight, Cypress Way went ahead easily when Imran asked for an effort and stretched out well to by a good margin. Valley Crossing and Inspiring Tunes finished second and third respectively.

Sk.Kassam was the only trainer to saddle two winners on the day. His winners came through Silver Crown and Victorous Sally. Satish Nayak rode Silver Crown (Placerville-Silver Academy) to a thumping victory, in the Sunny Blossom Plate. Positioned well in third as the field rounded the final turn, Silver Crown galloped resolutely on the straight to draw away and register a maiden victory. Aprise got the better of Sea Runner for the second spot.

Victorous Sally (Gaswar-Tirolean Gold) scraped through to win the lower division of the Brown Sugar Plate. Setting out on a start to finish mission, Victorous Sally entered the home stretch with a handy three lengths advantage. Al Jadeed started to move fast inside the last 100 metres and closed the gap rapidly but fell short by a whisker at the wire. Hidden Destiny was withdrawn before the race.

Ananth Vatsalya’s Kohinoor Supreme (Greensmith-Oh So Quick) was ridden by N.Rawal to a start to finish victory in the higher division. Key Note covered a lot of ground to finish second ahead of Samsonite.

S.S.Faisal Hassan’s Mr.Glorious (Mr.Mellon-Simply Glorious) justified the favouritism, in the higher division of the Allez Vite Plate, a five furlongs sprint for maiden 3 year olds. Mr.Glorious took charge inside the final 200 m and thwarted the late bid of True Scholar. Kohinoor Revanta and Marquise filled the frame.

Anupam Sharma’s Dakshayani (Danehill Star-Essential Elegance) managed to keep her neck in front of the more favoured stable companion Symbol Of Beauty, to lift the lower division. Setting out in front from the start, Dakshayani had a lead of about three lengths in the home stretch. Symbol Of Beauty started to bridge the gap but fell short by a neck at the finish. Rise of Emerald was withdrawn before the race.
