The feature event at the Bangalore races on Friday, The Garden City Trophy to be run over 1400 metres, had attracted a field of a dozen runners. Stone of Destiny, Classical Dancer and Einstein had recently raced in class I, but had chosen to carry the top weight in this class II race. Last outing impressive runner Mucho and a last start winner Attain cornered most of the betting in the ring. The rest of the field could be backed at 8/1 and over. The connections of Einstein had chosen to claim an allowance and accordingly entrusted their horse to apprentice Md Shoaib. This well bred gelding was a very costly purchase and had performed exceedingly well as a youngster, but had very little recent form to advertise his credentials. The speedy Einstein took a great jump and dictated terms from the start itself. He was chased most of the time by Southerner, Asiaticus, Attain and Mucho while the rest of the field was at a fair distance. The moment the field entered the straight and Shoaib released his hold on Einstein, the response was immediate and he galloped away for a smashing victory. There was daylight between him and the field before Stone of Destiny came from the rear and displaced Southerner from the second spot. Mucho plodded on to be fourth ahead of Attain who had reportedly burst his blood vessels during the race. Southerner ran a big race in this higher class after flopping badly last week when he was a fancied runner in inferior company. The day's proceedings started with jockey Prakash winning both the divisions of a sprint race for maiden three year olds. Lunar Lust was a bad fifth in his last start and was therefore neglected by the punters, while loads of money was wagered on the Suraj Narredu ridden Different Opinion. The favourite was taken to the front and was chased by Another Destiny till the 400 metres marker, while Prakash was seen improving his position on Lunar Lust on the wide outside. Different Opinion started sending distress signals in the last furlong and packed up to ultimately finish a bad last. Lunar Lust collared Another Destiny and went away for an easy victory. Sayonara came from the rear and occupied the third spot. Different Opinion was another favourite to have burst her blood vessels during the afternoon. Mystic Dancer, a sister of the famous Mystical, was the rage in the other division. She had stripped fitter after her first start and was sent to the post as even money favourite. Sitting behind the runaway Spark Of Class, Prakash had to give a couple of cracks to Mystic Dancer before she quickened and sped away from the rest. She checked in ten lengths clear of Pinaakini and Kajuraho. Although she was a very popular and impressive winner, it is too early to assess her classic potential since the beaten brigade comprised a very ordinary set of youngsters. Her style of running suggested that she would be more suited over a staying trip. The Talkad Trophy was the supporting event in the day's card. It was an open betting race with all the runners available at 3/1 and over, before Look Alike attracted strong support and started as a marginal first choice. It was pretty evident in the early stages of the race itself that this money had been well placed. Look Alike was cantering on a tight leash while the others were being pushed to stay in place. She passed the front running Azazel and Princess Emily with ease and was not fully stretched to win from a late finishing My Winning Charm. Princess Emily just about held on to third place from Cashfirsttiketnext, who finished with a flourish from a detached dead last position. This horse can be placed to win easily in similar company, since he has shown a glimpse of his previous form. Jockey Appu also scored a popular double for the day. He was given a scare by Sangini while he was riding the even money favourite Mystic Star from B Puttanna's yard. This horse started to loaf after taking over the running in the last furlong before Appu straightened him out and gave him a few cracks. Sangini had a whipless apprentice on board and as such had to be content to play bridesmaid. The early leader Shisham was a close third. Appu had an easy win astride Compton Star who was running against a bunch of horses he had beaten earlier. He had the luxury of holding up Compton Star in third place behind Auchinlech and Jedi Knight, before releasing the brakes on him and justifying the favouritism. Jedi Knight held second place ahead of Suave who found the top weight a stopper. The talking point of the day was the big gamble landed by the connections of Sunny's Symphony in the last race of the seven event card. The filly was backed down from 10's and over to 4/1 with the bookmakers. She had performed brilliantly in the summer season but was under a cloud for over six months. She had made a seasonal reappearance a couple of weeks ago and was given an easy start on that occasion. With jockey Melvyn declared to ride her and the fact that this jockey had yet to win a race during the ongoing season, the racegoers did not have an inkling about her chances before money started to come on her. Super Woman, River Blush and Bee The Star made the early running while Needofthehour was in close attendance. Sunny's Symphony was seen racing on the far side and took the final turn about six horses wide. She showed tremendous acceleration thereafter and sprinted away to win by many lengths from Needofthehour and Royal Alchemist. Her performance was a matter of pride for her young trainer Tharun Thimmaiah.
