The Hyderabad Winter Races, consisting of the originally advertised 34 days and an additional ‘extra’ race day being added, concluded on Tuesday, 2nd March 2010. Trainer Anupam Sharma, who has had the best career figures this season proudly led in two more, both in the colours of Dr. D. Ravi Choudary. Red River Rebel clocked a smart timing in the lower division of the Columbia Plate, run over five furlongs. Red River Rebel had set out in front, from the start and the course favourite, Al Jadeed, had to bite the dust, being in futile chase throughout.

Deepanjali won the concluding race, the higher division of the Bhimavaram Plate, in a similar fashion. Petrodura took the shortest way as the field straightened up and began to get closer but fell short by half a length at the finish. The favourite, Look At Me Go failed to get into rhythm and finished a tame fifth. Both the winners were ridden by jockey R. Parmod.

The lower division was won by the friendless Fearless Mission. The Zoheb Shaikh-trainee fought out with the front runner Loco Poco on the straight and surged ahead to win from the fast finishing Splendid Knock. Loco Poco took the third spot.

The two divisions of the Sweet Girl Plate ended up in close finishes. Satheesh-trained Scamper found herself in the money, in the lower division. Apprentice jockey, B.Dileep took the filly from start to finish and the four length lead she had established midway up the straight came in handy as she just managed to scrape through by a ‘head’ from the fast finishing Monduro. Leading Light was permitted to be withdrawn.

Zambo Anga reproduced that gallop to lift the higher division of the race. A winner on Sunday, Zambo Anga had to carry the statutory penalty of five kilograms and came out of the scales at 62 kilos. King Of Court had taken charge inside the final furlong and looked like he would kick on when Zambo Anga, making light of the back breaking weight, shot ahead to get the race close to the winning post. Divine Ganges rallied on late to take the third spot.

Sun Strikes spurted well to get the better of Sorbitrate, passing the distance post in the opening race of the day. Star Experience, who trailed the field till the final bend, improved on the straight to finish second ahead of Sorbitrate.

A previous outing winner, Fleeting Wish, brought the field into view on the straight, in the Naloma Plate. Anemometer joined the leader and the two began to fight it out. Onera Onera Onera was in third, about three lengths behind when the field passed the distance marker. Jockey Harish pulled Onera Onera Onera away from the fence and the gelding sported a pair of wings to fly past and win. Anemometer managed to peg Fleeting Wish for the second place.

With three horses, Fabulous Crown, Ivory Snow and Alukkhas being withdrawn in the second race, the higher division of the Columbia Plate, the field was reduced to five. Laxman Singh trained Phar Lap trounced the opposition. The reins of Ruby Crown snapped near the 200 metres and the apprentice managed to hang on till the winning post, finishing second ahead of Vinaleo and Queen of Hebashe.

Prasad Raju, who ended the season on a high note, had a winner on the concluding day through Alpine Girl. Having settled well in third position, rounding the final turn, Alpine Girl shot through readily and kept Rising Rays at bay.
