It was the turn of Trevor Patel and C.D.Hayes to showcase their talent on Monday, at Hyderabad. Trevor had a mighty day, riding a quadruple, two for trainer R.H.Sequeira and one each for Anupam Sharma and M.V.Narayana Rao. Chris Hayes pulled off a treble for the ‘Goldie Brown’ brigade, all of them under K.Satheesh’s tutelage. Among the trainers K.Satheesh and R.H.Sequeira saddled three winners each, while Anupam Sharma packed a double. It was a rewarding day for the followers of money, as only one first favourite, in the opener, failed to make a mark, in a card of nine races.

Sweet Candy, Sporting Star and Best Pal were the three horses which were ridden to victory by Hayes. Best Pal (Best of the Bests-Ultimate) won the Sir Bruce Plate, a 1200 m sprint event for horses rated upto 75. Best Pal was quickly guided to position along the inner rails within the first furlong, while Rajkumari, Victorous Sally and Vijay Kiran fought for prominance in front. On entering the final straight Rajkumari continued her pursuit and Best Pal moved swiftly to essay a challenge. Inside the last 200 m, Hayes gave a couple of backhanders and the 4 year old quickened instantly to get past Rajkumari. Vijay Kiran snatched the second place from Rajkumari close to the winning post.

R.H.Seqeira trained Proof (Burden of Proof-Florale), who had not raced for almost three months, showed enough proof of his fitness by pulling off an authoritative win in the lower division of the Sir Bruce Plate. Although raced sparingly, Proof has got a tremendous record, having won four times out of five starts and finishing second to Super Duper in the other. Jockey Trevor used the inner most draw to advantage and went straight to lead the field at start and made every pole a winning one. On the final run in, Proof kept kicking on and Garibaldi, Handsome Hunk and Valentine followed the winner.

Trevor had earlier ridden Moko Moko Moko (Emerald Cat-Zahra) in the lower division of the Artistic Tribute Plate. Elegant Approach was in command, midway up the straight and the favourite Moko Moko Moko started to pick up momentum from almost sixth position, six lengths behind the leader. Marquise also started to move strongly. The two bridged the gap at a fast pace and Trevor got Moko Moko Moko to prevail over Marquise at the finish while the long time leader Elegant Approach ended up third.

Chris rode two quick back to back winners, through Sweet Candy and Sporting Star. The Apprentice Jockey A.Pramod Goud Memorial Cup was won by Sporting Star (Alydeed-R Valid Girl) in taking style. Improving steadily from sixth position as the field rounded the final turn, Sporting Star surged ahead effortlessly and broke away from the field to win by a big margin. Midnight Beauty, Shades of Victory and Nano Angel filled the frame.

The victory of Sweet Candy (Hurricane State-Integral) in the higher division of the Storm Trooper Plate was not all that easy and Hayes had to work harder to achieve that. Kianoosh was in front all through the race and Sweet Candy joined alongside on top of the straight and the two fought out the rest of the distance. Sweet Candy had surged ahead in the last 50 m, while Allendale flew in but failed by a short head at the wire.

Trevor made a smooth landing on M.V.Narayana Rao’s Lona Dona (Gaswar-Samarinda), in the lower division. After assuming command near the distance post, Lona Dona stretched ou easily to pick up her maiden title in her second attempt. Fighting Fit rallied on to finish second ahead of the long time leader Ice Lolly.

Anupam Sharma’s Kathakali (Case Law-Zehera) won the Jockey M.Madhu Kumar Memorial Cup. Trevor guided Kathakali along the inner rails and accelerated towards the closing stages to push back Buck Knife.

Anupam saddled a winner through Kohinoor Destiny (Epicentre-Alero), in the first division of the Artistic Value Plate, the opening race of the day. Kohinoor Destiny galloped resolutely when jockey Henrique asked for an effort and covered plenty of ground from the rear to emerge ahead of Ocean Side on the last stride.

Local lad K.Anil rode R.H.sequeira’s Heros Choice (Gaswar-heros Best) to a thumping victory in the Don Micheletto Plate. Grande Comore, Jaden Gil and Three Double Eight filled the frame.
