Satish Narredu trained Flaming Lamborgini won The Bull Temple Trophy, the feature event in Friday's card at Bangalore. It was a 1400 metres race for horses in class II. Although there were eight acceptors, the betting indicated that the race was confined to the hot favourite Soberano, Flaming Lamborgini and Top Of The Class. All three of them had won their previous starts, and were reported to be working well. Jockey Rajesh on Flaming Lamborgini made use of his inside draw, as also his light handicap, and took his horse on a start to finish mission. Vinod Shinde on Soberano was a comfortable second, while Suraj decided to wait with the speedy Top Of The Class and raced in mid bunch. The race took a serious turn as they straightened for home and the front runner kicked away from the rest. Favourite Soberano started plodding and fading away, while Suraj came with a flourish on Top Of the Class and joined issue with Flaming Lamborgini. The two of them fought out every inch of ground before Flaming Lamborgini reached the winning post sparing a neck to the runner up. Logan's Run was a faraway third. Soon after the "All Clear", it was announced that the favourite Soberano had burst its blood vessels during the race. Suraj Narredu may have lost the feature, but he displayed his skills by riding a fine treble for trainer Lokanath. They started the afternoon with the extremely well bred Power Punch (Placerville-Virginia Princess). This gelding had disappointed on more than one occasion, but today he had no problems in leading all the way and winning over a staying trip. The opposition was very ordinary, as a result of which he was backed down to odds-on favouritism. Suraj had the luxury of repeatedly looking back in the straight and finally won pulling up from Alleyesonme and lucky Gold Star. The beaten brigade shall take a lot of time to grace the winner's enclosure. The next race saw them in similar light as Suraj took Lokanath's Imperial Applause to the front. This was a race for maidens and the betting ring saw a lot of action. Appu ridden Last Samurai was backed all morning and was tipped as a good bet for the day. He was soon displaced as the favourite, as loads of money came pouring onto the Satish Narredu trained Different Opinion. Although this filly was ridden by Koch, the punters were in no mood to look beyond Different Opinion as her earlier runs had been in much better company. Ultimately, the two of them went to the post as joint favourites, while the odds against Imperial Applause had drifted to 8/1. The frontrunner was followed by Last Samurai, Different Opinion, Tall Guy and Mighty Heart as they took the final bend. Different Opinion was the first to pack up and in doing so, took a lot of punters money down the drain. Last Samurai was also seen to be shortening his strides, when Rajesh Babu on Mighty Heart decided to make a move from the rear. The response was immediate, but the winning post came to the rescue of Imperial Applause who lasted out to win in a photo finish. Mighty Heart was gallant in defeat as this was the first run of his career. He should be fancied in similar company if he elects to run again at the fag end of the season. For the record, Last Samurai finished a tame third ahead of Different Opinion. They got their third win with New Pastures in a race for horses in the lowest class. This race saw a lot of support for the Prithviraj trained Pretty N fast. This well bred filly had run almost a dozen times without figuring on the board in any of her starts. It was obvious that the connections had planned a coup for her owners and prepared her for a staying trip by deciding to run over a trip of 1800 metres. They were most unfortunate in their endeavour, as the filly fell shy by a neck at the wire. Suraj Narredu on New Pastures had taken over the running before the bend and was hard ridden to hold on from Pretty N Fast. The last named was hanging out throughout the straight and her jockey Md Shafiq was a mute spectator. It was later learnt, the she is one eyed as she had lost the other due to a rare disease last year. Valid Bid was a faraway third. Pretty N Fast was an unfortunate victim of a couple of interferences during the race, and it is recommended that her supporters continue to back her in her future engagements. Appu was the other jockey to shine during the afternoon when he guided two well fancied runners to easy victories. Michael Eshwer trained Silken Clare, now under the charge of Md Khan was an impressive second in her last start and as such was installed as the even money favourite. Appu allowed Black Splendour to lead the field into the straight before he made his move on Silken Clare and took over the running. He got a scare, when An Equal Music came and headed her briefly, but rode his mount with great understanding and snuffed the belated challenge of the top weighted Super Woman. An Equal Music was reappearing after a setback in training and shall be a different proposition in his next start. Second in demand Dock Of Bay was knocked around in the early stages of the race and finished at the rear end of the field. Colonel Duff was ridden by Appu to emerge as the easiest winner of the day. The odds against this horse began to expand, as a lot of support came for Sunnyland and Apertini. Arjun Mangalorkar brought Colonel Duff looking a picture into the paddock. Srinath pushed Sunnyland into the early lead with Apertrini in hot chase, while Colonel Duff was relaxed into third ahead of the speedy River Blush. The front running duo cut pace with each other and packed up in the final furlong. At that stage, Appu eased Colonel Duff into the lead and sailed away from River Blush and Needofthehour. This was the third victory for Colonel Duff in his short career and his style of winning today suggested that he should be noted for further successes. Sunnyland has been backed in all his starts this season and has gulped down a lot of money. His connections would do well to give him a rest and bring him out in the summer. The jockey's championship for this season has suddenly opened up with today’s results. Appu with his double has joined Prakash at the top of the table. Suraj with his treble has also come within striking distance of the above mentioned duo. Prakash has been going through an extremely lean patch in the last few weeks. Race goers can look forward to a keen tussle amongst these three talented jockeys in the last few days of the season.
