Mr. T. Venkatram Reddy & trainer L D Silva Leading Walnut Creek (Suraj Narredu Up), winner of The Dr. Harish Chandra Memorial Cup

Monday turned out to be very fruitful for trainer Ananth Vatsalya, leading in three winners. Good Shot, Kansas City Mac and Dash of Class romped home in their respective races. The first-named was ridden by Suraj Narredu, while the in-form P.S. Chouhan was astride the other two.

Suraj took a good jump on Good Shot and let the youngster gallop freely in front. As the field entered the straight, Crown Castle made a brief appearance but faltered out quickly. Sterling Cruise surged to join Good Shot and as the two started to fight out it looked as if jockey John would prevail but Suraj with a good ride brought out the extra in his mount to turn victorious. Devil’s Advocate put in a late run to finish second ahead of Streling Cruise who was reported to have burst his blood vessel in the race.

Suraj who had ridden a double at Pune on Sunday repeated the feat in Hyderabad. He rode Walnut Creek to an easy win in the Dr. Harish Chandra Memorial Cup. The son of Caption Rio looks to be a very promising youngster in D’Silva’s Stable. Sent into the race at cramped odds, Walnut Creek took position behind Kohinoor Mystic and once on the straight, accelerated to post his second consecutive victory.

Trainer Sk. Kassam has kept his ward My Tyson in tremendous condition this season. After his win on the second day, My Tyson was backed to the exclusion of the others in the higher division of the Jockey K. Suresh Memorial Cup. Taking a good jump, My Tyson shot to the lead and never looked back. Anguna beat the rest to finish second. Auburn Star and Star of Hyderabad filled the frame.

The lower division was won by Satheesh- trained Part Time Lover. Leading right from the start, jockey Imran Khan had to use his might to hold forte when Retro Magic and Cygnet came with a threatening run. Kohinoor Eye was withdrawn on veterinary grounds.

Jockey P.S. Chouhan drove home Kansas City Mac and Dash of Class with authority to register a fine double. Kansas City Mac produced a splendid gallop when shown the daylight, to win convincingly in the Classic Story Plate. Ninja Power and Hundred Flowers fought on for the minor placing. The well-fancied Manki lost all his chances at the gates when he jumped out late losing almost six lengths. Dash of Class lifted the lower division of the Mirza Ghalib Plate, leaving the rest of the field cold behind. Monduro with a late dash occupied the second spot ahead of Penumatcha. Meticulous was withdrawn after he refused to move into the gates.

The higher division of the Mirza Ghalib Plate was won by Pleasing Display who received strong support in the betting to wind up as the favourite. Pleasing Display was running in second behind Navija while Ice Man, Splendid Scot, Acciaccatura and Onera Onera Onera followed. Coming inside the final 200 metres, Pleasing Display took charge only to be passed by Splendid Scot who raised a good gallop and went ahead by two lengths. The race took a dramatic turn in the last 50 metres when Pleasing Display came with a re-run and collared Splendid Scot in the dying moments. Indian Storm and See You There showed speed in the last 100 metres and went past the post abreast. The judge not being able to separate them in the photo declared a dead heat for the third place.

Anupam Sharma’s Shes Got The Look, who had run on Sunday finishing last in a field of five, produced a late burst of speed, to win the lower division of the Perceived Value Cup, beating Tiara at the post. Tiara was on a start-to-finish mission with Southern Spice in tow throughout.

Picking a winner in the higher division was most difficult with the betting pattern not being able to give any indication. Over half a dozen runners had a quote of around fives. Amontillado set out in front from the start and was looking good coming inside the final furlong. Top Shape and Mystic Impact started to get stronger towards the finish and the three went past the line in a close finish. Top Shape had his nose ahead of Mystic Impact to emerge victorious while Amontilado was a neck behind to take the third spot.
