His Excellency Sri.E S L Narasimhan, Governor of A P talking to jockey S John about the race

Arjun Mangalorkar-trained Kyles of Bute was ridden in clockwork precision by jockey S. John to lift the A.P. Governor’s Cup. A field of four horses took the start, three of them being Bangalore based with Above The Line turning out to be the lone local hope. Successor led the field followed by Captivating, Kyles of Bute and Above the Line. As the small field approached the last 300 metres, Captivating surged ahead after a duel with Successor with the favourite Kyles of Bute still in third, about three lengths behind. In the final 150 metres, jockey S. John released the brakes and Kyles of Bute produced a scintillating gallop to score an impressive victory.

His Excellency Sri. ESL Narasimhan, Governor of Andhra Pradesh, who was present to witness the race, was bewildered by the turn of foot of Kyles of Bute and spent a few minutes with jockey S. John after the presentation, discussing the riding strategies.

Deshmukh and Chouhan combination were in the limelight yet again, winning four races in a card of nine. Sporting the popular colours of Pink and Red Stars, Vijayarath stormed home a clear winner, in the Basalat Jah Memorial Cup, for horses in the highest category. Clever Ploy, in her customary fashion, led the field till the final bend wherefrom Vijayrath took charge and sped away to the winning post. Sparks finished second while Reconnect had to encounter traffic snarls before he could manage to move to the third spot.

Deshmukh and Chouhan, who are the most successful professionals so far this season, cleared the first three races with ease. Power Colors, Flash of Emerald and Mystical Knight were all sizzling hot fancies with cramped odds.

Power Colors passed the front-running Scamper with ease as the field entered the straight and extended the margin in the Ivanjica Cup. Scamper held on in second, ahead of Enchantment, who improved after being slowly away. Flash of Emerald made every post a winning one in the lower division of the Sangareddy Plate, a race for maiden horses run over five and a half furlongs. Paris Time and Sorbitrate were in futile chase in that order throughout the race.

The third race, the Subramanya Bharati Plate, was won by Mystical Knight, who swept past the early leader, Pluto Queen, near the distance post. Fearless Mission and The Himalayas filled the frame.

The higher division of the Sangareddy Plate turned out to be very interesting race with long shot Fine Racer and the market fancy Key Note being involved in a stirring duel right through the home stretch. Fine Racer was out in front from the start while Key Note had to wriggle his way out while taking the final bend. Fine Racer along the rails and Key note on the outside fought out till the finish and the former held on by a short head. S. John, the rider of Key Note objected that Fine Racer had shifted out near the 250 metres and thereby he had to check his mount which resulted in his losing the race, was eventually overruled by the stewards. Rocking Rocket finished third ahead of Star Experience.

Satheesh-trained Ice Candy turned out to be lucky in her third attempt this season, winning the higher division of the Byerly Brigade Cup. In a three-way finish, Ice Candy had put her head in front at the all-important end to beat Ultra Violet Ray and Mystic Impact. Ultra Violet Ray led all the way from the start and in the last 150 metres, Ice Candy and Mystic Impact started to inch closer with every stride. Although Ice Candy started to lean out, apprentice P. Venkat managed to get her nose in front and win.

Arsham picked up speed in the final 250 metres to emerge clear of the field in the lower division. Southern Spice led till the last 250 metres and weakened to finish third behind Kohinoor Fairytale. Chashme Badur was withdrawn after she started to play up inside the gate.

Jockey S. John rode the public choice Southern Rose to victory in the Divine Dreams Plate to complete his double. Chasing Avon Gorge till the final bend, Southern Rose surged ahead to stay well in front of Young Star. Style Ikon and Vintage Dancer filled the frame.
