Mr. K Rama Krishna & Trainer S S Faisal Hassan leading Easy Touch (P Venkat Up), winner of The K M Khan Memorial Gold Cup Div-I

S.S. Faisal Hassan-trained Easy Touch (Warrshan – Game Girl) clinched the higher division of The K.M. Khan Memorial Gold Cup, the feature of Monday’s races at Hyderabad. Out of the five runs this season, Easy Touch had emerged as a winner in the lower category. Neglected in the betting, Easy Touch was offered longer odds, while Tell Me A Tale received maximum support. The speedy China Pearl brought the field into view on the straight but drifted out and lost position. Taking advantage, Easy Touch, surged ahead and raced away with the race comfortably. Power Ranger managed to pip Bernardo for the second position.

Apprentice Ajit Kumar, who is having a dream monsoon, rode out a double to take his season’s tally to sixteen. The young lad took Ananth Vatsalya’s Golden Tricks (Don Micheletto – Scholarship) to a start-to-finish victory in The Elite Zone Plate. The even-money favourite, Welcome Baby, made every effort to get past Golden Tricks on the straight but faltered, even after the best efforts of jockey P.S. Chouhan.

The double was completed through S. Habeebullah’s Fabulous Crown (Kly Green – Showering), in the lower division of the K.M. Khan Memorial Gold Cup. Fabulous Crown jumped out well to take position in front and on entering the home stretch established a lead of over four lengths from the nearest contender, Surya Putra with Victorous Sally racing in third position. Onti Onti Onti, who at that stage was almost a distance behind leader, started to gallop with giant strides covering ground rapidly but failed to get the better of Fabulous Crown. The favourite Menlo Park burst his blood vessel and dropped back to finish sixth while Leading Light was permitted to be withdrawn on veterinary grounds.

Trainer Donald Netto had his share of two winners, bagging both the divisions of The Accomplish Plate. Sun Bird, the daughter of Razeen, who had remained a maiden even after six runs, two of which were during this season where she had finished off the board, turned out to be a different customer. With jockey P.S. Chouhan, Sun Bird picked up momentum on the straight and raced away to a facile win. Kathakali and Steel Breaker warmed up late and finished in that order, two lengths behind the winner. Simha was withdrawn before the start of the race.

Gabriel (Epicentre – Arbington Eight) won the lower division by a ‘head’, much to the relief of the battered punters. With long-shots ruling the day, Gabriel managed to justify the favouritism. Indian Brave Heart shot clear on entering but apprentice Harinder Singh could not keep an even keel, drifting out throughout the last 400 metres. Paris Time came up with a strong challenge and as the two fought out, Gabriel grabbed the wide gap along the rails and managed to peg back Indian Brave Heart and Paris Time in a three-way close finish. Black Rose was withdrawn before the race.

Jockey M.F. Ali Khan, who had replaced Ch.K. Chary on Genius Empress (Royal Gladiator – Loud water) in the Top Most Plate, didn’t let the chance to slip out and won by a clear margin. Deepanjali, Esperanza and Fearless Mission filled the frame.

K. Satheesh’s Ice Mountain (Juniper – Adam’s Delight) won the Mystical cup, the opening race of the day, by a wide margin of seven lengths.
