Admiralofthefleet Arrives In India

Admiralofthefleet

Six year old Admiralofthefleet (Danehill - Rafina) arrived in the country last week to resume his stud career at The Kunigal Stud Farm. After a very brief stint as a stallion in Ireland, where he performed duties for a single season, the fashionably bred specimen has been imported into India. After winning three races, this brilliant performer was bought by Dr Vijay Mallya. The turf baron wanted to race him abroad for a season or two before bringing him as a stallion to his farm. Unfortunately, the big made horse picked up a serious injury and was immediately put on the repair list. At that stage, there were doubts about his future career. However, after some tender care and medication, he was back on his feet. With his racing career coming to a standstill, Admiralofthefleet was retired to stud. Quite a few mares are in foal to him, and his progeny shall start racing within a couple of years.

The Kunigal Stud Farm has been enjoying a great run as a leading breeding establishment in the country. It has been the champion stud farm at Bangalore for more than a decade. The hugely successful Burden Of Proof has been their most productive sire. Even though he is bred for speed, Burden Of Proof has sired quite a few Classic winners. The most obvious quality that his progeny display is a sparkling turn of foot. His daughter Siachen made him proud by rocketing away to win The HDIL Bangalore 1000 Guineas on Saturday. She thus completed a Classic Double, having won the Fillies Trial Stakes on the same track during the Bangalore Summer Season. Siachen is perhaps the best filly of her age in training in the country.

The sons of Danehill are normally known for their speed. However, Admiralofthefleet has repeatedly shown that he loves it longer. After winning a maidens event over seven furlongs, he was campaigned over an extended trip. He won The Dee Stakes (Group 3) over a mile and a quarter, before taken a huge leap in Class to run away with The Royal Lodge Stakes (Group 2). His last victory was achieved over a mile. In both these successes, the Aidan O'brien trained colt was ridden by Mick Kinane.

The Kunigal Stud Farm is a home to some of the finest broodmares in India. Admiralofthefleet brings a new dimension to this farm. The combination of speed and stamina that he brings along with him, may help this farm in doing better and better.
