By Parjanya | 12 Mar 2012 | DELHI

A power of acceleration towards the end enabled Gold Spark to pip Jovial in the Central Reserve Police Force Cup, which was the main event of the Delhi races on Monday. In the card of six events, none of the professionals were able to earn a double.

In the field of eight horses, Gold Spark was traveling fifth behind the leader Alabaster, from whom Jovial took up charge just before the final furlong of the 1,400m's trip. When Jovial looked all set to win without any hiccup, the son of Onatrio and Argyle Gold suddenly came with a breakneck speed through the stand side to get the nostril better of him. He should now be noted over the mile, whereas Jovial is expected to make amends. Zabardast managed to push Alabaster back for the third spot.

The opening event of the day, which was the upper division of the Meemach Plate, saw Sunrise shedding its maiden status at the age of four year. The late Sunset Vine, who had impressed a lot finishing fourth sporting blinker, was sitting close second behind Ashwa Parinda till the top of the curve. Flight of fancy, who has been performing consistently, got the runner-up berth ahead of the favourite Skyros and Ashwa Parinda, who is knocking at the door.

Cashing-in on the handicap advantage of almost 11 kilograms from Fascinating Memory, one of the joint favourites, Sultan Ayubi became the second horse of the day to taste maiden success after Sunrise in the lower division of the plate. Fascinating Memory should soon raise a winning gallop.

The Brazilian jockey Carlos Henrique, who was showing his prowess in the racing circuit of southern India as yet, stole the heart of the Delhites by riding Fearlessnegotiator elegantly in the Internac Security Plate. Interestingly, the achievement for the gelding of Steinbeck and Accrual came after a gap of over twelve months. He should achieve more success over the longer trip. Best of Luck ran on to be impressive second ahead of The Dukes.

Ishwar Singh Parmar's Master Sensation ran for glory in the CTC Plate. The beautiful chestnut by Hammerstein and Sterling Sensation has the staying stamina and is expected to earn more laurels for his connections. Seven Eight Six filled the runner-up berth ahead of the public fancied Crusoe. Miss Gorgeous and special dame who finished fourth and fifth respectively bear watching.

Aleem Khan-trained Narmada brought the curtain down by completing an encore by almost making every post a winning one in the Rapid Action Plate. The speedy mare of Ontario and Fireheba, should set her sight for a hat-trick. Dazzle and Happygolucky shared the next best and third position respectively.
