Just Amazing (M Mark up) winner of The C Krishnaswamy Naidu Memorial Plate Div I being led by trainer Byramji

Rashid Byramji trained Just Amazing recorded a facile win in the C Krishnaswamy Naidu Memorial Plate (Div I), the highest rated event of the lackluster card of six events that were gone through on Friday. The daughter of Green Forest breezed past the only realistic challenger Taurian and won with plenty to spare in the hands of up and coming apprentice Mark. Most Convincing recorded a hard-fought win over Lusitania in the lower division of the race.

The controversial Taurian from Puttanna’s stables received inspired support along with Just Amazing who was essaying over a more suitable trip, with five-kg drop due to the allowance claimed by the apprentice. Taurian had lost at Mysore as a favourite, which had resulted in its jockey being suspended for a long period. Now entrusted to apprentice Vivek, Taurian was strongly fancied despite running first time after being gelded. Taurian raced a handy second behind Samyuktaa till approaching the final bend and took charge and shaped like a winner. But Just Amazing who came on the wide outside, gathered momentum in a trice and surged ahead of the front-runner without much fuss to record an impressive win. In the form that she is in, Just Amazing can repeat.

The lower division of the race saw M P Mahaesh trained Most Convincing receiving all the support. Mahek hit the front as the starter dispatched the field for the seven-furlong trip, with Most Convincing racing a handy second along with Lusitania and Samarinda. Most Convincing hit the front inside the final 300 metres and though he drifted out under pressure, Suraj Narredu was able to gather him and set him alight. Lusitania came menacingly close and it looked as though the favourite was beat. But Most Convincing fought resolutely to win quite capably in the end. Most Convincing who was running after just four days, did not relish the slow pace and he needs a strongly run race. Samarinda was third ahead of Take Control.

The only cup event of the day, the Shimoga Cup (Div I), went the way of Son of Fortune, partly owned by sporting owners R Kannan and Mujahid who are newcomers to the field. Son of Fortune had all the credentials, having run a close second behind Millennium Magic at Mysore and as such, the inspired support in the ring was well placed. Warren Singh had Son of Fortune in front from the start and had something to spare when finishing ahead of a late-finishing Pride Fashion and Young Warrior. Make a note of Pride Fashion who was not tuned to strike in this race. The lower division of the race was claimed by Dominic’s ward Laptap who won at nourishing odds. Touch of Frost was the public rage but she was well beaten in the end although jockey Mahendran on Laptop went on to the favourite, causing the Loknath ward to brush the false rails. The objection by Suraj Narredu against Mahendran for squeezing him and causing him to brush against the rails was overruled. Smoke Dancer was full of running at the finish.

Karan Singh tained Amazing Velocity showed out to be a good type of youngster, winning the Savadatti Plate in a smart time of one minute 13.98 seconds. First timer Al Qamar was the public rage but the son of Alnasr Alwasheek found Amazing Velocity too speedy for comfort. Amazing Velocity can turn out to be a top class sprinter. Missedent was third ahead of Jungle Ceremony who continues to be sluggish at the start and in hopeless pursuit thereafter.

Lion Hunter would have gone into the Dharmasthala Plate as an overwhelming favourite but with Puttanna’s Bollinger cornering big support, the former ran at good odds. Lion Hunter gave no chance to his opponents, kicking clear on turning for home to win by a widening margin of over seven lengths. Bollinger was hopelessly outpaced from the start and was a lost cause even before the runners approached the final bend.
