Moon Emperor maintains winning form

By Sharan Kumar | 20 Mar 2004 | BANGALORE

Moon Emperor ( B Prakash up) winner of The Nanoli Stud Bangalore Juvenile Million (Grade II) being led by trainer Mr. Ganapathy

Moon Emperor maintained his winning form when staving off the challenge of his rivals in the Gr 2 Nanoli Stud Bangalore Juvenile Million on Saturday. The speedy son of Placerville won with a fair degree of ease. The disappointment of the race was the performance of Kaiser who had come with great reputation from Hyderabad. The son of Glory of Dancer performed poorly but in the light of the fact that he had shown some loss of form in the workouts, his performance was not totally unexpected.

Moon Emperor thus ended up as one of the best-performed juveniles from this centre. Though his breeding suggests that he would be more at home over longer trips, the fact that he has shown good speed is indicative of better things to come. After running a handy second behind the front-running Alaskan, Moon Emperor took charge on turning for home and held on comfortably to win from late-finishing Stilton. Stilton who was in the rear position at the top of the straight came through with a big run along the rails to be an eye-catching second. Full Speed finished on to take the third spot ahead of Spectacular Quest who had all the chances but lacked the gas to make an impact on the result.

Puttanna trained Double Eagle continued his amazing run of wins when carrying the back-breaking load of 64 kgs to a thrilling win in the Leading Stud Trophy. The five-year old son of Classic Tale has been in good nick since the Mysore season and has turned out to be a money-spinner for the trainer who also part owns the horse. Double Eagle came from behind with a rattle on the wide outside to win in a four-horse finish from Augill Castle, Refresher and Daring Don, the margin separating the winner from the rest being a neck.

Arjun Mangalorkar’s Itsmyday made amends for her last start failure, getting the better of Patrichian quite capably in the upper division of the Champion Trainer Trophy. Star Angel made a belated effort and was full of running when finishing third. Forever Elegance proved too good for the field in the lower division. Raging Fire who was sluggish at the finish, covered lot of ground at the finish and this run should give this full sister to One Magic Moment, a good value in her future assignments.

Be A Honey sprang a big surprise in the Leading Tipster Trophy winning at the expense of Kapila. Princess Chand who was backed to the exclusion of her rivals, was never in the hunt.

Son of Fortune edged out Copper Sky to bag the Leading Trainer Trophy (Div I). Ocean Spirit was the betting rage but the of Twist And Turn was clearly wanting more ground. Blazing Hills claimed the lower division of the race from Madam Marina. Smoke Dancer reared up at the gates and was hurt. Smoke Dancer should have been examined thoroughly before being allowed to run but it did not happen. Smoke Dancer jumped off slowly and trailed the field from the word `go’ and finished way down the field.

Madhav Mangalorkar’s Diamond Caves recorded a hat trick of wins, winning the Leading Owner Trophy from Demanding. Loknath’s Assessed won the lower division in splendid fashion from Clueless Puzzle. Assessed who was re-located from Mysore after the four-year old showed an aversion to the Mysore course, has settled down well and going by the manner of his win, he should move up the scale rapidly.
