Fantabulous King for the Colts Trial Stakes

By Chris Hoover | 13 Jun 2004 | BANGALORE

The winning comeback of Fantabulous King after overcoming a repiratory problem, in the Karnataka Juvenile Million, which was run in soft under foot conditions, makes him the horse to beat in the Colts Trial Stakes, the second classic of the season to be held at the  Bangalore Turf Club on Sunday.

With the setback behind him, he has confirmed that he is a top class performer and will be a strong contender for the premier event. However he has to live upto the challenge from the Dr M.A.M. Ramaswamy’s goldie-brown brigade, which has three strong contenders in the fray. Ganapathy’s wards Spectacular Quest, Moon Emperor and Star Admiral will give the Sardar Singh trainee Fantabulous King a run for its money.

Spectacular Quest won in impressive fashion in its first start this season and is to be ridden by jockey B. Prakash, indicating the chances of this colt. That Prakash has preferred to ride the Placerville out of Forest Fantasy colt is a pointer of the colts’ potential. Moon Emperor is a winner of three races in winter and his fourth was in the Speakers Cup on the third day, where he just managed to stave off the challenge of Taurian by half a length. However, Moon Emperor has the credentials and he may spring a surprise.

Full Speed (Burden Of Proof-Speedy Beauty) put up a gallant show finishing a game second to Fantabulous King in the hands of Choksey Ruzaan, who got a chance ride following Silva Storai’s injury. Now with jockey Silva back in the saddle, it would be interesting to see how
the Italian lass handles him. Star Admiral too stood out while finishing third, just a neck behind in the same race. He will be another serious contender.

If Satish Narredu trainee Stilton (Penine Ridge-Chesterford) who is doing blazing track work, repeats his track performance, the French jockey David Badel ridden colt may be a decent place proposition. Stilton had finished second behind Moon Emperor in the winter and  subsequently finished way behind eighth to Fantabulous King in its first start this season.
