Star Hopeful (Razeen-Hablitzia)

The MAM Ramaswamy juggernaut rolls on. Fresh from their victory in the Poonawalla Bangalore Derby with Flashing Star, the Ramaswamy-Ganapathy-Prakash combine unveiled another 'Star' at Hyderabad in the Golconda Derby Stakes (Grade1). This time that star that rose into the classic firmament was Star Hopeful (Razeen-Hablitzia).

Star Hopeful came into this race fresh from two good wins in Mumbai over the derby distance. taking him on were the three monsoon derby winners - Candy Man (Deccan Derby), Aquilo (Pune Derby) and Psychic Strength (Mysore Derby). There were two other classic winners in the fray, Glorious Breaker (Bangalore Fillies Trial Stakes) and Scintillating  Skill (Golconda Oaks) as well as the well performed Yes es Yes Ses.

After Candy Man had led them into the straight, Star Hopeful and Scintillating Skill made their runs at the same time. Psychic Strength came into the straight widest of all and soon joined issue with the leaders. Prakash on Star Hopeful, Rajendra on Scintillating Skill and Srinath on Psychic Strength all riding their mounts to the fullest made for a very exciting sight. The race for the Golconda Derby was well and truly on.

Prakash managed to hold onto his narrow but diminishing advantage and had Star Hopeful in front by a neck at the winning post.Scintillating Skill had given her best and just failed. Psychic Strength was close behind in third ahead of Yes Es Yes Ses.

With the regional derbies now completed all eyes are fixed on Mumbai for next week's McDowell Indian Derby.
