Days Best Wins Shaman Juvenile Million

Days Best (Burden of Proof – Enduring Image) proved too good for his opponents in the Shaman Juvenile Million and literally cantered home to a ridiculously easy victory in the hands of jockey Imran Chisty. Installed the hot favourite on sheer performance and current form, tipsters in the business played with the cliché’ attached to his name, nominating him as the day’s best bet. He obliged them all and how!
Victorious March expectedly took to the lead and initiated a lively pace for the 1400 m race. Catharsis followed him close behind with Neona and Days Best in tow. Samantha and the rest were not too far away.
Victorious March led them into the straight but soon packed up as Catharsis started to make his bid. Neona was taking time to warm up along the rails and Days Best showed keenness to surge forward with a fiery gallop. Imran Chisty had little to do as Days Best dictated his own terms and sprang to action about 300 m from the winning post. He shot ahead past Catharsis at top flight and drew away from the rest completely outclassing his rivals. He had sewn up the race past the distance post and won easing up. This was a fantastic display of complete domination of a good set of juveniles and Days Best did it effortlessly implying that his best is yet to come. He was not firing on all cylinders and had plenty left in him while scoring this stylish victory. The timing he clocked too was an impressive 1:23:08 not too far from the course record of 1:22:57 and this without being extended! Considering this was only his fourth start and he is only in his first campaign, Days Best sure is on the right course to more glories.
“I am impressed and happy that Days Best won the way he did,” said Mr Shiven Surendranath, the owner in partnership with Neil Shah. I have great regard for his abilities and had placed high hopes on him to pick up good races. He has not disappointed me. I felt he could have won the Poonawalla Breeders’ Multi-Million as well, but somehow he missed out there. He has a bright future for sure and I am contemplating a stint in Bangalore this summer. I think he is stuffed with a good blend of speed and stamina and I am sure he will get better as he matures. This win is indeed satisfying and he only has raised the bar with the manner of this victory,” Shiven told indiarace.
Astapi (Placerville – Blurr) walked away with honours in the Hyderabad Race Club Trophy, the supporting event of the day for horses in the top class. He consolidated his high reputation and won as convincingly as he did last time as if providing an action replay. Only this time he made his run from the outside. Lyrical Symphony had monopolized the rails and had led from the start all the way into the straight. Star of Gibraltar, who was chasing the leader, came abreast soon on turning for home but wasn’t able to shake off a determined Lyrical Symphony. She stuck on stubbornly even when Astapi burst on the scene. The three matched strides for a very brief while before Astapi unleashed his now known final burst and sped away from them.
Astapi once again was not all out and easily managed to beat the opposition. Trainer Altamash Ahmed has done well with Astapi whose first victory was over a five-furlong scurry. Ahmed’s faith in her staying abilities were spot on as Astapi vindicated him twice now in his last two runs. Star of Gibraltar ended a decent second. Royal Highness raced in the rear for most of the journey and only managed to finish third, just ahead of Lyrical Symphony who I feel ran a good race. If she runs again over a mile, she could come good.
