The Mafia grabbed half-a-length win over Ode To Nature on Monday to end its top class quest in the Royal Calcutta Turf Club Cup. Rajinder-trained gelding was ridden by jockey Sandeep Rajput.     

As usual Ode To Nature called the shots and looked all set to wrap up the mile event in the start to finish attempt. But The Mafia picked up momentum near the distance post to go past the leader in the last strides. The well supported Ka Ching came from the last position to occupy the third spot ahead of Enya. The favourite Made of Gold, who was observed to be limping from the corner of the final curve, dislodged the jockey at the top of the home straight. The Mafia should set his sight for a hat-trick. 

The supporting event of the day which was the Dr S D Sharma Memorial Cup witnessed a close finish. Whiff of Money held off a flying Bacha Quero by a neck. Travelling second behind Nizbati Queen, Whiff of Money took up charge after entering into the straight. Bacha Quero posed himself as a main threat after displacing Zoombastic and Awesome but failed short. He should make amends. 

Aleem's What A Sight prevailed over Abdullah in the City of Joy Plate, which was the opening race of the day. While, maintaining the start-to-finish attempt, jockey Hashim Ali Khan never allowed Abdullah to get away. Abdullah should soon taste a win. Nonios and Sultan Mirza bear watching.

The lower division of the Howrah Plate saw Northern Surprise earning his career's first win. Sitting close on the heels of Pretty Good and Fulminator, Mohammed Asif forced his mount to poke through between the duos before the final furlong to register a convincing victory.   

Bharat T Singh-saddled Episode shed her maiden status by making every post a wining one in the upper division of the Howrah Plate. The public fancied King Cha Cha, who jostled with Leicester Square at the jump, had a tardy start and to recover the lost ground, his stamina was used up before the bend to run second.

Ishwar Singh Parmar's Miss Gorgeous left the field dancing to her tune in the west Bengal Plate. Leading the field of ten youngsters from the front, she warrants another victory. Chardi Kala, a debutant, was shying thought before finishing second. The grey filly should be followed upto six furlongs.
