Pesi Shroff, the man with the midas touch, continued to display his brilliance with exuberant victories from Bespoke and Volterra, on Sunday. A double by jockey B.Sreekatnth for the silks of Dr.M.A.M.Ramaswamy and another by the trainer jockey combination of S.Padmanabhan and A. Sandesh were the other highlights of the day.

Bespoke (Ikhtyar-Sartorial) won the Chief Minister’s Cup (Grade III) very impressively, beating a quality opposition in a fast timing that turned out to be a new course record. Bespoke stopped the clock at 1min 11.56 seconds that was fractionally faster than the earlier record that stood in the name of Bisquit for 21 long years. Lovely Kiss showed lot of zest and took the lead from the innermost draw. Bespoke ranged alongside quickly and the two showed up together on the home stretch. With some forceful assistance from the saddle, Bespoke surged ahead and Secret Punch who had been pulled out for a clear run, made a desperate attempt and inched closer rapidly. The lead was diminishing with every stride but Secret Punch could not pull off that extra and Bespoke passed the winning post half a length clear. Attila moved fast through a pack of horses to take the third spot ahead of D’Artagnan.

Pesi Shroff’s Volterra (Razeen-Averoff) had in a race earlier decimated the opposition to lift the higher division of the Brig.R.C.R.Hill Memorial Trophy. Jockey B.Prakash handled the 100-35 ‘on money’ favourite with supreme confidence to win by a lengthening margin. Settled in about third and fourth as Thoughts N Actions set sail in front, Volterra headed to be second, turning for home and was sighted a winner very early on the straight. Flyning Snow rallied late to deny Thoughts N Actions the second place.

The lower division was won by Darius Byramji trained Saganaki (Glory of Dancer-Sober Mind). The well backed favourite Saganaki was in the midst of some jostling early in the race and the rider Fr’co DaSilva decided to steer clear and moved forward to join the front running Living Legend. As the heads turned for home, Saganaki surged ahead effortlessly and won easing up. Ibelieveinmiracles finished second while Youre Stunning, on whom the rider looked like a mannequin, lugged on to take the third spot. The run of Youre Stunning did attract the attention of the stewards and the rider was pulled up for an explanation.

Jockey B.Sreekanth rode a mighty double for the silks of Dr.M.A.M.Ramaswamy. Red Baron (Ad Valorem-Kon Tiki) trained by Karthik Ganapathy won the higher division of the Baraloy Plate. Settling on the haunches of the leader Trillion Win till the last 300 metres, Red Baron powered its way to take control and kept up the momentum to stay clear of Maximus assault. Ice Stone ended up a tame third.

The second victory for Sreekanth was through S.Ganapathy’s Aspect Of Love in the higher division of the Doncaster Plate, the concluding race of the day. Jayem was up in front till the top of the straight with Aspect of Love tracking the leader closely. Once they straightened up, Sreekanth grabbed the opportunity and strode ahead with Aspect of Love to register a fine win. Heart of Gold took the runner-up berth ahead of Jayem.

Trainer S.Padmanabhan used the services of Western India based rider, A.Sandesh to register a double through Equine Lover and Monreale. Equine Lover (Ace-Free Radical) put up a splendid debut performance in the Glorious Colours Plate, making every post a winning one. Cielo Signore covered some places late, to finish second in front of Divine Deliverance.

Monreale (Hawk Wing-Aseelah) on a start to finish bid in the Mama’s Mink Plate, toyed with the opposition on the home stretch to script an impressive maiden victory. Strive And Serve took the second place ahead of Claara and Mellon’s Delight.

Amit Caddy trained Champagne On Ice (Oath-Loud Water) who had not placed even once in her nine starts, finally found the right stride and won by an extending margin. Racing along with I Fancy You, in front till the last 400 metres, Champagne On Ice literarily drew away from the field to score a runaway triumph. Flip Your Destiny, I Fancy You and Style Of Signature filled the frame.

Warren Singh schooled Sanfrancisco Girl (San Francisco-Calendar Girl) who has always been consistent, scored an easy win under P.S.Chouhan, in the lower division of the Baraloy Plate, the opening race of the day. Vayomi finished second ahead of War Artist on whom the rider had lost his right stirrup leg 600 metres from home. The race favourite Red Bishop lost many lengths at the start and never looked to be relishing the trip.
