Black Caviar
Australian sensation Black Caviar won the G1 Diamond Jubilee Stakes in a breathtaking finish which stopped a million hearts around the world.Black Caviar was at the Ascot with an awesome record of 21 wins from as many starts and was heading for her 22nd straight victory and a 12th Group I success. Going into the race as the favourite at 1-6, Black Caviar chased the leading pair early and moved to be second, 2 furlongs out and was ridden to lead within the final furlong. Jockey Luke Nolen found Black Caviar to be travelling well and dropped his hands towards the closing stages and to his shock Moonlight Cloud and Restiadargent started to wear down menacingly. Luke realized his folly and was back at his job in an instant, to cling on by the proverbial whisker at the line.
"I probably underestimated the testing track of Ascot," said Luke. "It is quite unfortunate because it is going to over-shadow what was a good win. I under estimated the straight six here. It was pilot error but I got away with it."
Winning trainer Peter Moody who was overjoyed by the success of Black Caviar said, "You have only got to win by a quarter of an inch. We never expect dominance. We never ask her for dominance. She is 22 from 22 - it is never about margins and never about dominance. I am an extremely proud Australian. Words can't describe the feeling."
