Trainer L.D’Silva and jockey Suraj Narredu teamed up, to grab the lions share of the nine races that were run on Thursday, the second day of the Monsoon season at Hyderabad. The duo won four races together, while another jockey turned trainer, Laxman Singh saddled an impeccable treble. P.S.Chouhan and P.A.Culhane rode a brace each.

L.V.R.Deshmukh schooled Ashwa Shakti (Rebuttal-Speedwell) powered his way to be a length better from Vijay’s Conquer, in the Dr.Harish Chandra Memorial Cup, the feature event of the day. The two joined together on top of the straight and matched strides for almost a furlong after which the son of Rebuttal, who was back after a summer stint at Bangalore wherein he had won a race, rallied better to lift the race. The rest were many lengths behind.

L.D’Silva started the season with a bang, saddling a quadruple, all of which were ridden by Suraj Narredu. San Ramon (Placerville-Sorrento Steel), who had shed his maiden ranks at Bangalore, scored an encore, in the Flowers Of The Forest Cup. Suraj had San Ramon in about sixth position as the field rounded the bend while Major Luck and Citi
Supreme called the shots in front. Citi Supreme moved ahead in the last furlong and San Ramon began to raise hopes from the rear. Despite lugging in on the straight, San Ramon went clear to register a fine win. Dark Avenger rallied to take the second spot.

Ocean Side and Green Bay were both looking a picture in the parade ring and they reproduced their fitness on the track, to win their respective races. Ocean Side (Noverre-Maratha Princess) opened his account in the higher division of the Set Alight Plate in an effortless manner. Settled in about fourth till entering the home stretch Ocean Side made headway to take charge near the distance post and drew away with Suraj just having to use his hands and heels. Hidden Power finished second ahead of Rise of Emerald and Cannon Law.

Green Bay (Ivan Denisovich-Livernut) showed plenty of improvement after his Bangalore sojourn to register his first win in the lower division. Suraj changed the course of Green Bay from the outside towards the inner rails to avoid the Waverly run of Arudra in front and was on his own towards the last 150 metres. Arudra towed on to
take the second spot.

Sea Runner (Inhabitant-Haynes Park) was quickly up in front, tracking the leaders, after taking a start from an outward draw and moved ahead to establish a lead of over two lengths from the nearest challenger. Chouhan got busy on Play The Music in the last 100 metres and started to bridge the gap but Sea Runner kicked on and went past the winning post half a length in front.

M.Srinivas Reddy who was issued a trainer’s license from this season picked up his first win through Drum Beat (Major Impact-Star Qualities) in the higher division of the Maltese Prince Plate, the concluding race of the day. P.S.Chouhan partnered Drum Beat to give the young trainer a maiden victory. Golden Adagio, Star Experience and
Vijay’s Rose filled the frame.

Trainer Laxman Singh saddled a treble through Naughty Gal, Sheikh’s Emperor and Lumiere Blanche. Sheikhs Emperor (Plaverville-Singita) romped home in the Nawab Mehdi Jung Bahadur Memorial Cup, a nine furlongs trip for horses rated 50 and above. Racing towards the rear for most part of the race, Sheikh’s Emperor responded instantly to Culhane’s urgings and swept past almost half a dozen horses to draw away from the field. Kohinoor Angel, Bribe Madi and All For Fun filled the frame.

Naughty Gal (European-Gaslight) who got her name from her temperamental behaviour as a youngster, looks to have improved on her manners, going by the way she decimated the opposition, in the lower division of the Thungabhadra Plate. Naughty Gal won by a wide margin of seven lengths. Handsome Hunk and Confidential finished second and third respectively.

Lumiere Blanche (Gaswar-Dancing Flame) was another splendid performer from Laxman’s stables. Held on a tight rein till the distance post, the 4 year old grey filly outclassed the opposition in the higher division. Robust finished second while Combined Force and Hero’s Choice fought on to fill the frame.
