Mr Vadiyala Ramachandra Reddy and trainer M V Narayana Rao leading Oru Oru Oru (G Sai Vamshi Up), winner of The Major Mir Mujtaba Hussain Memorial Cup

M.V.Narayan Rao trained Oru Oru Oru (Rebuttal-Belinda) just about managed to scrape through to win the Major Mir Mujtaba  Hussain Memorial Cup, which featured Monday’s races at Hyderabad. Precisely That was up in front as the field came into the straight for the final run with Vijay Kiran tracking closely. Oru Oru Oru shifted gears to put pressure on the leader inside the last 200 metres and surged ahead. When it looked like Oru Oru Oru would have it easy, came Confidential from the rear with a blistering gallop and the two went past the winning post locked together. The ‘magic eye’ separated the two by a ‘nose’ and the result went in favour of Oru Oru Oru. Vijay Kiran and Handsome Hunk finished third and fourth respectively.

Trainer K.S.V.Prasad Raju was the only one among his tribe to score a double. He saddled a long shot in Cannon Law and then wrapped it up with a well chalked out gamble through Star Prospect. Jockey Nilesh Rawal who rode both the winners of Prasad, started off the day with a mighty upset, to score a rare treble.

Star Prospect (Sussex-Belper), who had not won a race for almost two years, had the right money coming its way and ended up as the firm favourite, in the Byerly Brigade Cup. Settling in about fifth position while Geography and Royal Sword disputed the lead, Star Prospect started to improve on the straight and with a final burst of speed inside the last 100 metres, sizzled past to justify the favouritism. Kansas City Mac finished on, being third ahead of Geography.

Cannon Law (Case Law-Starissima) shed her maiden ranks with a start to finish win in the lower division of the Sangareddy Plate. Jumping out smartly from the inner most draw, Cannon Law hit the front along the rails. Rise of Emerald, who was backed to the exclusion of the other runners, also moved swiftly from an outward draw to be in touch with the leader. As they approached the final furlong, Suraj Narredu on Rise Of Emerald started to make a bid and the two were joined by Paradise Bay on the outside but Cannon Law kept kicking on to score an upset. Anangalekha was withdrawn before the race.

L.D’Silva trained Ice Lolly (Chatham Strait-Star Selection) won the higher division of the Sangareddy Plate. The favourite Elenor was well in front from the start and had a lead of almost three lengths from the nearest challenger, moving into the last 200 metres. Suraj Narredu started to work his way on Ice Lolly and the filly responded readily to move out of the pack and with a sustained run, bridged the gap and flashed ahead of Elenor.

Jockey N.Ravinder Singh, who replaced an indisposed K.Anil on Hamilton in the higher division of the Subramanya Bharati Plate, made the best use of the chance mount and drove Satheesh’s ward to a pillar to post victory. Hamilton (Epicentre-Elero), who was winless even after fourteen runs, was prominent in front right from the start and kept at bay the strong challenge of Hard Hit towards the last 150 metres.

The day started off with a big upset from the stables of Ananth Vatsalya. The 5 year old Zulu Punch (Epicentre-Shooting Mercury) who went into the race as a maiden surprised everyone. Nilesh Rawal started to get stronger on the saddle when he realized that his mount was responding to his efforts and got the better of The Parliament. Zulu Punch paid a whopping Rs.573/- for a fiver.

Laxman Singh trained Front Line (Ikhtyar-Safe Heaven) showed a lot of grit while winning the grueling 2000 metres trip in the Donegel Plate. Apprentice Harinder Singh took Front Line to the front very early in the race and set his own pace by maintaining a leeway of about four lengths all the way. Strategic Command tried to exert pressure in the last 300 metres but Front Line did not show any signs of tiring out and kicked on to win easily. Westminister got the better of Strategic Command to take the second spot.

Speed Striker (Hymn-Slam Strike), who had gone down narrowly to Yours Truly during winter, made amends to lift the 5 furlongs Elegant Plate in an amazing fashion. Bangalore based jockey Kurshad Alam settled Speed Striker in fifth till turning for home and started to weave their way along the rails. Finding Dazzling Princess in front, Speed Striker was pulled out with 100 metres left and Sathyanarayana’s ward produced a brilliant acceleration to settle the issue well before the winning post. Dauntless, who was sluggish at start, was finishing on, taking the second spot, ahead of Moment of Roses and Yours Truly.

L.V.R.Deshmukh’s Win And Enjoy (Warrshan-Outtostealthescene) won the Devine Dreams Plate, the concluding race of the day. Local champion P.S.Chouhan who had drawn a blank through the day, came out successful on Win And Enjoy, beating the favourite Glorious View. Win And Enjoy went ahead to lead the field within the first furlong and brought the field into view on the home stretch. Glorious View was ridden hard by Satish Nayak but failed to collar the leader and had to settle for the second place.
