Kohinoor Wish (Gaswar-Blue Sonata) from the stables of Anupam Sharma won the A.P.Chief Minister’s Cup, a terms race for three year olds and upwards, which featured Sunday’s races at Hyderabad. Winner of the Nizam’s Gold Cup just about a month ago, Kohinoor Wish was expected to run in the President of India Cup but missed that event and made his bid in the Chief Ministers’. Only three horses faced the starter for the mile trip. Bangalore raider Aristos went ahead early, followed closely by Kohinoor Wish and Pedalo sticking to the rear. On the final straight, jockey Suraj Narredu just shook the reins mildly and asked Kohinoor Wish for an effort and the 5 year old responded brilliantly to surge in front assert its superiority. Aristos stayed on to finish second while Pedalo was last all the way.

Jockey P.S.Chouhan who is under suspension for two race days was conspicuous by his absence and it was Suraj who hogged the limelight in the day. A.Imran Khan was the only other jockey to score a brace while among the trainers, D’Silva, Vatsalya and Laxman Singh saddled two winners each.

Ananth Vatsalya’s Westminister (Epicentre-Sabakh) moved with a sustained run in the last 100 metres to lift the Prince of Berar Trophy. Front Line and Kansas City Mac fought for a place in front till the last 600 metres. Nano Storm took over the running in the last 200 metres and was looking good when Westminister started to get closer but was lugging in badly. Jockey Imran Khan exerted control on the gelding and drove him to get past by a length at the finish. Vatsalya completed his double through Kohinoor Victory (Inhabitant-Red Hot Babe), in the lower division of the Deccan Prince Plate. The favourite Hard Kingdom was being driven out in front with about 200 metres left in the race when jockey Nilesh Rawal brought Kohinoor Victory with a big run from the rear to get the better towards the closing stages. Ruffiano came in late to beat Hard Kingdom for the runner-up berth.

Suraj Narredu, who rode Kohinoor Wish to victory in the feature, had earlier piloted L.D’Silva’s Lake King and Ice Hill successfully. Lake King (Ontario-Cazia Star), who had remained a maiden at four years, even after sixteen runs, finally got to win in the Mr Prospector Plate, the first race of the day. Tracking Killer Instinct till mid way up the straight, Lake King responded to the strong urgings of Suraj and surged ahead. Ice Hill (Senure-Terrestrial) was another from D’Silva’s yard to shed his maiden ranks in the lower division of the Sweeping Success Plate. The favourite Rebut had set out in front from the start and had a good lead of over four lengths with two furlongs left on the straight. Ice Hill made headway on entering the final 200 metres and with a few strong backhanders from Suraj, picked up momentum to overhaul the leader and emerge victorious.

K.Satheesh trained Super Cool (Oath-Fantasia Girl) carried the colours of Dr.M.A.M. Ramaswamy to victory, in the higher division. Super Cool led the field from the word ‘go’ and Ceremonious was up with a challenge when the race got to a boil in the last 200 metres. Super Cool managed to keep Ceremonious at bay and two runners, Prince of Arabia on the outside and Kohinoor Revanta along the rails came charging in the dying moments of the race. Super Cool held on from Prince of Arabia by a head while Kohinoor Revanta was third, a ‘neck’ away. Ceremonious finished fourth.

Trainer Laxman Singh saddled a double through Royal Shaan and Rocking Racer. The 5 year old Royal Shaan (Royal Gladiator-Shanavi) was taken on a start to finish mission by P.A. Culhane, in the higher division of the Deccan Prince Plate and pulled it off successfully. Dream Deal was in chase till the last 150 metres and gave up finishing fourth while Suchiman finished second ahead of Star Prospect.

Rocking Racer (Mull of Kintyre-Esoteric) picked up its maiden win in the Forest King Cup. Speedtosucceed had the advantage in the last furlong with almost five runners in a line. Rocking Racer not finding a clear passage was pulled out by Deep Shanker and when shown the daylights, galloped resolutely to emerge three parts of a length in front of Speedtosucceed.

D.Netto’s Rustic Gal (Mr.Mellon-Hyacinth), who had failed to pull it off in her previous run, made amends to win the Cuddappah Plate, the concluding race of the day. Sweet Candy held forte till the last 100 metres but was overpowered easily by Rustic Gal. Golden Dash warmed up late to beat Sweet Candy for the second spot.
