Vijay Monarch Has It Easy in the Mysore Race Club Cup

The Mysore Race Club Cup, a terms race for 3 year olds and upwards, run over seven furlongs, which featured Monday’s races at Hyderabad, was won by L.V.R.Deshmukh trained Vijay Monarch (Diffident-Post Impressionist). Four horses faced the starter in the race and Proof, the youngest amongst them, enjoyed the favouritism. Iaepetus set out in front from the beginning, followed closely by Vijay Monarch, with Proof and Vendetta in tow a couple of lengths behind. On entering the home stretch, Vijay Monarch shifted gears under P.A.Culhane and charged to take the lead and win easily. Iaepetus finished second while Proof was a long way back third.

D.Netto trained Home Town (Midtown-Wild Racer) put in a spirited run to win the Hyderabad Veterinary College Diamond Jubilee Cup. Racing a close fifth till passing the 600 metres marker, Home Town looked to be very eager and rushed forward to be in front at the top of the straight. Ponte Verdi chased the winner throughout the home stretch while All The Fun came in late to beat Stylish Chieftan for the third place.

L.D’Silva’s Garibaldi (Ontario-Giovane Signora), who is in rousing form, completed a hat-trick of wins, in the higher division of the Raja Mehboob Karan Memorial Cup. Moving quickly from the outermost draw, Garibaldi headed straight to the inner rails to lead the field from the start. Vijay Kiran tried to keep pace alongside, till the last 200 metres but faded out to finish fourth. Robust and Compromise finished second and third respectively.

The lower division was won by J.Silvester trained Shatakshi (Case Law-Sharastamina), who made every pillar a winning one. The favourite Marquise was hard pressed inside the last furlong but the filly picked up speed very late and failed by a ‘head’ at the wire. Win And Enjoy came with a flourish on the extreme outside to finish a close third.

Anupam Sharma’s Shades of Victory (Epicentre-Evening Bride) bounced back to winning ways in the Nizam Sagar Cup. Star Striker went ahead to set the pace from the start and was in front till the last 150 metres from where Deccan Storm took charge. Shades of Victory was second last till entering the final straight and Suraj Narredu opted to run the filly on the outside. Responding readily to Suraj’s urgings, the filly moved swiftly to join Deccan Storm and after a brief tussle, surged ahead to win by half a length. Kohinoor Angel and Star Striker filled the frame.

D.Netto’s Elenor (Mathematecian-Chesterford) won the lower division of the Malvado Plate, a 5 furlongs sprint for maiden three year olds. Tracking Pacific Star till the last 400 metres, Elenor spurted ahead to score an easy victory. Jockey Imran Khan had the comfort of easing up his mount inside the last 50 metres and looking back. Gold Medal, Sheridan and Kianoosh filled the frame in that order.

Leo D’Silva schooled Paradise Bay (Hurricane Center-Green Paradise) justified the favouritism in the higher division, beating Laughing Eyes by half a length. Laughing Eyes went to the front within the first 100 metres and was chased by Paradise Bay till entering the straight. Passing the distance post, Paradise Bay surged ahead by over a length and Laughing Eyes was pulled out and started to get closer towards the finish but fell short by half a length.

Jockey Nilesh Rawal, who is enjoying the best season of his career, drove K.S.V.Prasad Raju’s Fine Racer (Sussex-Fine Glance) to an upset win in the Madanna Plate. The favourite Rich And Famous who led till passed by Fine Racer, made a second attempt towards the closing stages but the winner was safely in front. Zulu Punch was finishing on to take the third spot.

M.Sathyanarayana trained Star Engagement (Diffident-Star Board), who was racing after a gap of nearly seven months, was sent into the Swamy Ramananda Thirtha Plate as the favourite. Ridden by Satish Nayak, Star Engagement showed plenty of speed on the home stretch to pick up her maiden victory. Hard Hit, Enrapture and Inspiring Tunes finished second, third and fourth respectively.

D.Netto, L.D’Silva and Suraj Narredu were the professionals who scored a brace each.
