Mr. B S Reddy, Mr. K S N Murthy & trainer K S V Prasad Raju leading in Days Of Thunder (P Sai Kumar Up), winner of The Police Cup

K.S.V.Prasad Raju trained Days Of Thunder (Alnasr Alwasheek-Days of Glory) picked up her second win of the season, in the Police Cup which featured Sunday's card at Hyderabad. Apprentice P.Sai Kumar had Days Of Thunder in front, with the favourite Hidden Destiny and the two battled it out till the top of the straight. Once on the straight Sai Kumar started to urge his mount and the 4 year old filly responded readily to shoot to the lead. Stable mate Indian Epic made a bid along the inner rails but had to be contented with the runner-up position. Hidden Destiny and Young Soldier filled the frame. Garcia  Marquez was a non-starter in the race.

Corvette (Burden of Proof-Corsican) who had not raced for almost seven months put up a splendid performance to bounce back to winning ways, while trouncing her rivals in the higher division of the Faridoon S. Chenoy Memorial Cup. Jumping out well from an outward draw, Corvette was quickly with the front bunch along with Ashleen State and Fopping and the favourite Splendid Act in fourth. On entering the home stretch, Fopping was the first to show up and when jockey Kurshad Alam asked for an effort, Corvette surged past fluently and drew away to give trainer R.H.Sequeira a much needed win. Arabian Dancer beat the rest to take the second spot, ahead of Splendid Act.

K.S.V.Prasad Raju’s Commanding Heights (Hymn-Bumper To Bumper), who was backed to the exclusion of the other runners, lifted the lower division by a lengthening margin, to be the only stable to record a double. Whiling away his time in about fifth position till rounding the final bend, jockey A.Imran Khan guided Commanding Heights to take charge on entering the straight and stretched away to win by a big margin. Stable companion Aarohan got the better of Rich And Famous for the second place.

Sequeira’s bid for a straight double through Asta La Vista Babe was nailed by Sk.Kassam’s True Scholar in the last stride of the Adilabad Plate, a seven furlongs trip for maiden 3 year olds. Asta La Vista Babe set out on a start to finish mission and was looking to wrap it up with 100 metres left but jockey Ch.K.Charry on True Scholar kept riding out and the colt got closer with every stride and snatched the race in the last stride.

The opening race of the day, the Tanasha Plate – div 2 was won by Faiyaz Shaikh trained Attenborough (Sharp Attack-Belle Danseuse). Taking advantage of the innermost draw, Attenborough shot to the lead at start and was never headed throughout the five furlongs distance. Rise of Emerald was in chase throughout the trip but failed to get close to the winner and ended up second.

The higher division was won by Deshmukh trained Vijaysheel (Alnasr Alwasheek-Spectacular Blood). Jockey P.S.Chouhan who rode Vijaysheel went ahead with his mount approaching the distance post and quickly gained two lengths lead, which came in handy towards the closing stages. Cannon Law had to be given a few hard cracks to pick up speed and by the time Nilesh Rawal could get the filly to a rhythm, Vijaysheel was past the winning post half a length in front.

Laxman Singh schooled Great Warrior (Glory of Dancer-Dance in the Stars) being pitched over a distance of nine furlongs for the first time, came out and won the Commanche Cup, beating its eight rivals comprehensively. Star Striker set out on a start to finish mission with Great Warrior and Prayer Call together close behind. Novaya Zemlya and Vijay’s Champ were in tow a couple of lengths behind. With about 300 metres left in the race, Great Warrior surged ahead under Deep Shanker and stretched out like a champion to extend the margin to five lengths. Star Striker shook off the favourite Vijay’s Champ’s attempt to stay in the second place.

The 6 year old Royal Scotsman (Glory o0f Dancer-Zeta Zones) whose last win was well over 2 ½ years, bounced back to winning form, en-route to a win in the Esquire Plate, the last race of the day. Tracking the leader Caladium till entering the home stretch, Royal Scotsman surged ahead under J.H.Christopher and started to extend the margin. Combined Force made a vain bid and the favourite could only turn out to be the best of the beaten brigade.
