Glorious View (Kurshad Alam Up), winner of The Red Surprise Cup

M.Sathyanarayana trained Glorious View (Placerville-Glorious Fantasy) got up in the dying moments, to justify the favouritism in the Red Surprise Cup, a seven furlongs trip for three year olds on Monday. Cannon Ten was in front on entering the final straight for the last two furlongs of the race and Big Boss was attempting to give the leader a fight. Glorious View was backed to the exclusion of the other runners in the race but his supporters had some anxious moments when the bay colt behaved a bit lazy and jockey Kurshad Alam having to use all his arm strength to keep his mount with the bunch. Inside the last 300 metres Glorious View was pulled out, for a clear passage, away from the two runners in front and after a hard fight throughout the last 150 metres, got up to snatch the race from Cannon Ten by a neck.

Trainer Ananth Vatsalya was the most successful amongst his tribe on the day, leading in three winners. Nano Storm, Kohinoor Forever and Kohinoor Fighter were the victors from the stable and the first two were ridden by Nilesh Rawal.

Nano Storm (Epicentre-Desert Storm) won the 9 furlongs Epsom Plate, beating her four rivals quite convincingly. Laurel Canyon led from the start with Nano Pride on its haunches and Nano Storm in third another five lengths adrift. Approaching the final bend, Nano Storm inched closer to the front runners and when asked to quicken inside the last furlong, raised a fluent gallop to draw away. Aegis worked her way to get the better of Laurel Canyon on the wire, for the runner-up berth.

Kohinoor Forever (Major Impact-Flames), who had failed to beat Jaden Gil, a fortnight ago, was back with renewed vigour to win the lower division of the Red Orchid Plate. A Horizontal Urge was in front from the start and held that position till the last 250 metres from where she lost the ‘urge’ and fell back drastically. Guiding Spirit was quick to take over the running but could not match stride when Kohinoor Forever rallied from behind. Play The Music and Ice Rain finished third and fourth respectively.

Kohinoor Fighter (Gaswar-Sangam) crafted a decisive win in the higher division. After jumping out from an outer draw Kohinoor Fighter was eager to go to the front but found herself about five away from the rails and almost four horses alongside. Jockey Ajit Kumar managed to take his mount to the front even before passing the 600 marker and never looked back after that. Rob Roy, Phenomenal Speed and Lioness Heart filled the board in that order, while the favourite Moment of Roses finished second last in the ten horse field.

Leading saddle artist P.S.Chouhan continued his pursuit with a double, one for trainer L.D’Silva and another for S.S.Faisal Hassan. D’Silva’s Ice Lolly (Chatham Strait-Secret Paradise) showed plenty of speed to pick up her hat-trick victory, in the Glory of Dancer Plate. Precisely That and Rajkumari set out in front followed by Ice Lolly. With about 300 metres from home, Ice Lolly surged ahead and comfortably staved off the late challenge of Brahmani.

The grey filly, Sweety Girl (Ivory Touch-Highland Fling) had to be ridden all out by Chouhan to earn her maiden win in the higher division of the Makalu Plate. Prince of Arabia, ridden by Imran Khan and Sweety Girl got down to a strong duel inside the final furlong with both the jockeys in full flow and Sweety Girl emerged in front by half a length at the finish.

Laxman Singh’s Secret Angel (Placerville-Diablo’s Secret) was a runaway winner in the lower division, which was the opening race of the day. Ridden by P.A.Culhane, Secret Angel tracked Silver Island till the top of the straight and went ahead smoothly. Drawing away from the rest of the runners, Secret Angel was many lengths in front and was eased well before the winning post.

Anupam Sharma trained Ache For Love (Black Cash-Calliope) put up a brilliant performance under Imran Chisty to get back to winning ways, carrying the top weight of 61.5 kilograms, to win the Fire Arch Plate. Wedding Gift, Vijaysjyothi and Travaldo filled the frame in that order.
