Trainer Bharath Singh Leading Star Of Venus (Shailesh Shinde Up), Winner of The Roll ‘ N ’ Twist Cup

It turned out to be a super Saturday for top-weight jockey Harish who notched up a high-priced double with Bayberry (7/1) and Accessor (8/1). The latter also broke the duck for seasoned trainer HS Bath who was passing through a dry phase. Thus, after this double, Harish may hope to get a few more winning rides during the rest of the Monsoon season. Two other runners atop whom Harish tried his best but lost narrowly were Isle of Capri and Star Impact.

The main event of the afternoon, The Roll N Twist Cup, saw Bharath Singh-trained Star of Venus (Placerville-Free Radical) make every post a winning one without much ado. Jockey Shailesh Shinde thus edged ahead in the jockeys championship with this win.

The Telegraph 30 Cup was bagged by Daniel David’s Blazing Spectacle (Rossini-Bonguste) in the hands of Kadam. The latter has been riding with a purpose this season and has been given quite a few winning rides by the MAM stable. It is a laudable change for the better for this talented rider who was not riding to his potential earlier. Aged Star Impact ran a good second after trying to make up the considerable leeway in the straight while the other fancied runner Sokudo was knocked about early in the race and lost position. Otherwise he may have been closer at the finish.

The afternoon started with Vikash Jaiswal’s Break The Habit (Epicentre-Acanthus) making every post a winning one despite drifting out in the straight. Md Islam did well to use the whip in his left hand and hold on to the advantage. The frequently raced Malahide was dead last all the way and badly needs a rest. Eternal Instinct will be worth keeping an eye on while the bookmakers’ odds will decide the fate of Sugar N Salt who seems to have gone sour.

Shafiq Khan’s Isle Of Capri tried to make every post a winning one with stablemate Tennessee Waltz at her tail. Neeraj Rawal atop Vijay Singh-trained Ace Of Base (Ace-Angel Heights) rode a power-packed final furlong to get the better of the two fillies in a blanket finish.

Arti Doctor’s Songstress and Rithambhra were the two fancied runners in the ring but it was the former’s stablemate Bayberry (Warrshan-Mulberry) who was piloted expertly by Harish to land the spoils in The Pompano Handicap. He watched from a box seat as the front lying duo vied for command and then bid them adieu near the distance post. Gorshkov and Dance In China finished late to occupy the minor berths.

Pesi Shroff-trained Coppelia (Noverre-Patricia) closed as an on-money favourite and she did not disappoint her backers. Jockey Parmar sat at the tail of front-running Lady Ship till the straight and then galloped away to victory. Top-weight Credit Ease finished on to be a good second. It was a consolation win for the filly who had the misfortune of being withdrawn from the Fillies Trial because of a loose left shoe coming off during loading operations.

The curtain came down amid a heavy downpour which the seasoned campaigner Accessor (Chevalier-Dellua) seemed to enjoy no end. The harder it poured, the faster he galloped in the straight as the pair of fancied front-runners Tasveer and Ace Elegance shot their bolt.
