Trainer S.Padmanabhan for whom Malakpet is a lucky hunting ground was back again after his Derby success early this month, to lead in another classic victor, Hills And Stars (Razeen-Altitude), in the Golconda St.Leger (Grade2). Jockey A.Sandesh rode a neat and confident race to overwhelm her five rivals in the race.

Vijay’s Jet set the pace, closely followed by Star Marquess. Hills And Stars was settled well in third while Vijayshaurya, Surya Lakshmi and Swiss Don followed. The order was almost the same till entering the home stretch and the six runners raced in a single file. Inside the last two furlongs, Sandesh niggled his mount and the filly responded brilliantly to pick up momentum and gallop past the front runners. Star Marquess stayed on in second, ahead of Vijayshourya.

M.V.Narayana Rao’s Ace Star (Hymn-Meryl) who had ended her winter campaign with two successive victories bounced back with a win in the Smt.C.Mohana Kumari Sathyanarayana Memorial Cup. On entering the home stretch, Ace Star surged ahead on the outside with Miss Watermelon being asked for an effort along the inside. Cherry Hill, All The Fun and Lioness Heart were beginning to warm up, close behind. It started to look a bit difficult for Ace Star when the filly started to drift out alarmingly with about 100 metres left in the race and Cherry Hill being strongly brought on but jockey D.K.Ashish kept riding out Ace Star and had his mount a length in front at the finish despite the drift. Cherry Hill finished second while Lioness Heart and All The Fun filled the frame.

L.D’Silva trained Anacostia (Clodovil-Almost Perfect) made a splendid dash inside the final furlong to shoot through and win the Bangalore Turf Club Trophy. Anacostia who had finished second to Genius Empress on the Derby day, made amends while winning the 5 ½ furlongs sprint. Vijay’s Conquer rallied on to take the second place while the favourite Plenipotent warmed up late on the straight to disappoint a hoard of supporters.

Al Sarraah (Gaswar-Gatling) from the stables of S.A.Shehzad Abbas caused a flutter while edging out the favourite Ashwa Shakti in the S,Rangarajan Memorial Cup, a six furlongs terms race for horses 3 years and upwards. Smartly out from the gates, Al Sarraah was taken to the front and the grey gelding had a clear two lengths lead on showing up on the final straight. Ashwa Shakti was asked for an effort and he started to move closer while Indian Epic was also in contention for a short while. Imran Khan on Al Sarraah stepped up the momentum when he saw the favourite closing up and managed to stay ahead by a head at the wire. Molecule was denied of a clear passage along the rails near the distance post and had to be pulled out to make an effort. Molecule finished third in front of Indian Epic.

S.S.Faisal Hassan’s Queen of Habashe (Kly Green-Machiavelli) scored an upset win in the Loyal Prince Plate. Stable mates, Geography and Chayanandan disputed the lead with jockey Ch.K.Chary keeping Queen of Habashe in third just behind them. Inside the last 350 metres, Queen of Habashe surged ahead in between the two in front and strode out majestically to extend the margin to over three lengths. Geography held on to take the runner-up berth in front of Palace Affairs.

K.Satheesh trained Sporting Star (Alydeed-R Valid Girl), a hat tricker during winter last, scored a facile win in the opener, the Tick Tock Plate. Racing close to the rails in a handy third position till entering the straight, Sporting Star was guided to take the gap along the rails that opened up when the leader Three Double Eight shifted left and drew away to register a fine win. Home Town beat the tiring Three Double Eight for the second place.

Jockey D.K.Ashish rode a double for trainer M.V.Narayana Rao, driving Wedding Gift (Royal Kingdom-Virginia Flapper) to victory in the Scintillating Plate, the last race of the day. Racing in second behind Kohinoor Victory, Wedding Gift made his move to take charge with a little more than 600 metres left in the race and successfully stayed in front, to thwart the favourite Qinghuangdao towards the closing stages.
