The Stewards of the Bangalore Turf Club, at a meeting held last evening confirmed the suspensions proposed by the Stewards of the Mysore Race Club. This action pertained to the running and riding of Echoes Of Light in the Huntsey Gold Cup in the recently concluded Mysore racing season. Although the stewards of MRC had recommended suspensions till October 31, 2008, the BTC stewards after their own detailed enquiry have confirmed the following punishments: Jockey C Alford has been suspended till May 31, 2008 for "Not permitting his mount to run on its merits". Trainer D Byramji has been suspended till Dec 31, 2007 for "The unsatisfactory running of his horse in the said race ". Both these suspensions shall commence from November 29, 2007, effectively giving the licensed professionals nine days to file their appeals before the Appeal Board of the BTC. In another racing related enquiry, apprentice jockey Gaurav Sapra and trainer M Eshwer were produced before the stewards of the Club, pertaining to the running and riding of Bliss during Saturdays racing. Since Sapra is an inexperienced and young apprentice and also because he accepted that he had made a mistake, the Stewards decided to take a lenient view and suspend him for only 2 race days. He was also warned that any repetition of such an act would entail severe punishment in the future.
