Frankel signed off his glorious career with an amazing win in the G1 Qipco Champion Stakes at Ascot. The son of Galileo has an astonishingly unblemished record of 14 victories from as many starts.

Starting off a bit lethargic in the race, Frankel recovered to be 4th after 3 furlongs, was brought wide to progress 2 furlongs out and cruised up to shoot to the lead with a furlong left and stayed well ahead of Cirrus Des Aigles. This was not one of the best victories of Frankel but the champion thoroughbred showed plenty of class in beating the world’s second highest rated horse Cirrus Des Aigles.

"He's the best I've ever had and the best I've ever seen," said trainer Sir Henry Cecil. "I'd be very surprised if there's ever been better."

Jockey Tom Queally, who partnered Frankel in all of his 14 races, said: "I'm so proud of him. It's been an amazing journey and I can't tell you what it means to be part of it.

The proud owner Khalid Abdullah summed up Frankel’s celebrated career in one line, “That is the end”
