The curtains came down on the Monsoon Season at Hyderabad on Monday. L.V.R.Deshmukh with 28 wins was the adjudged as the leading trainer while P.S.Chouhan continued his dominance, to walk away with the top honours with 42 wins. Kuldeep Singh and A.K.Pawar were the joint leaders among the apprentice riders with seven wins each. The wonder filly In The Spotlight was declared as the Champion horse while Kohinoor Wish, who won the feature of the day, was the horse of the season.

Kohinoor Wish (Gaswar-Blue Sonata) who has hit a purple patch completed a hat-trick, winning the Dundoo Ekambar Memorial Cup, a seven furlongs trip for horses in the highest category, which featured the day's races. Trainer Anupam Sharma, who has worked hard to get this 5 year old to peak form has to be applauded for the effort. It was the 7 year old Iaepetus who showed perseverance and set out to set his own pace, while El Paso, Kohinoor Wish and Vijay’s Dhara raced in close attendance. Iaepetus carried the top weight in front till the last 250 metres and then started to weaken. Kohinoor Wish made headway quickly and was in front by the time they crossed the distance post and went forward easily under Suraj Narredu. El Paso and Vijay’s Dhara rushed together towards the closing stages to finish second and third respectively while Iaepetus ended up fourth.

The Nawab Arshad Ali Khan Memorial Cup, 2400 metres terms race for horses 3 years old and upward had attracted six runners, with half of them from trainer L.D’Silva’s stables. San Ramon, among them, ridden by Suraj Narredu was the firm favourite but it was stable mate Golden Rule who emerged clearly in front at the finish. Laurel Canyon set the pace from the start and the first to come into the final straight. San Ramon was beginning to make headway as the field approached the final furlong and Golden Rule getting stronger on the outside. Golden Rule shifted in slightly as he rushed forward. San Ramon was slightly hampered for a clear run between Laurel Canyon and Golden Rule but the winner stretched out well and won by a big margin.

Trainer S.S.Faisal Hassan ended the season on a high with a treble. Citi Supreme, Sweety Girl and Dazzling Prince were the victors from the saddle, all three ridden by A.Ashhad Asbar. Citi Supreme (Kly Green-Supreme Fantasy), who is in rousing form this season, completed a hat-trick in the Onnu Onnu Onnu Plate. Showing plenty of speed and zest Citi Supreme went ahead to lead the field and was briefly headed by Architect near the 800 metres. Asbar kept riding out Citi Supreme till the winning post. Architect drifted out alarmingly on the straight and finished on the extreme outside of the track to take the second spot. Azaiba was hard ridden by Trevor Patel but the filly could only finish third.

Sweety Girl (Ivory Touch-Highland Fling) who had won two races in a row was sent into the higher division of the Forest Treasure Plate as the firm favourite. The filly picked up momentum inside the last 200 metres and got into a rhythm to surge past Maharadhi to complete a hat-trick of wins. Bold Reason and Art Ace finished third and fourth respectively.

Dazzling Prince (Hymn-Truffles) scored an emphatic victory in the higher division of the Ivanjica Cup. Coming in second, behind Crown Castle as they entered the home stretch, Dazzling Prince took charge early on the straight and drew away from the field. Hero’s Choice, Crown Castle and True Scholar filled the frame.

Ananth Vatsalya’s Kohinoor Vikrant (Sharp Attack-Dancer’s Quiz) shed his maiden ranks in the Cape Knight Plate. The 3 year old rushed ahead to take charge, on top of the straight and kicked on comfortably. Apprise finished second while Fortunate was third, many lengths behind. The favourite Ice Hill put up a pathetic show, finishing off the board.

L.D’Silva’s Bloody Mary (Mr.Mellon-Cats Concert) picked up her second successive win from as many starts this season, in the lower division of the Ivanjica Cup. Suraj Narredu took Bloody Mary to the lead right from the start and the favourite Silver Crown was in chase all the way. Inside the last 200 metres, Suraj stepped up the momentum on Bloody Mary and Silver Crown buckled under pressure when asked for an effort.

Jockey Nilesh Rawal who has had the best season of his career, having ridden 14 winners thus far, rode out K.S.V.Prasad Raju’s Cannon Ace (Kly Green-Sugar Mine) to a gutsy win in the Treasure Wind Plate. Setting out on a start to finish bid, Cannon Ace was challenged strongly by Royal Sword, inching closer with every stride in the last 100 metres and the two went past the winning post together. Cannon Ace had held on by a ‘head’ at the wire. Ann Arbor travelled all over the track, pulled out to make a run on the top of the straight and shifting in towards the inner rails in the last 100 metres to finish a close third.

L.D’Silva’s Ponte Verdi (Epicentre-Crystal Beauty), a maiden even after 21 runs, finally pulled off a win, in the lower division of the Treasure Wind Plate, the concluding race of the day. Ponte Verdi hit the front, early in the race and came in first on the home stretch. Pakat Pakat Pakat and Inner Strength tried their best to collar the leader but faltered under pressure and finished second and third respectively.
