Trainer D Netto leading Alexander Square (A Imran Khan Up), winner of The Kasu Brahmananda Reddy Memorial Cup

Alexander Square (Ajaad-Celesta), a consistent performer from D.Netto’s stables won the Kasu Brahmananda Reddy Memorial Cup, which featured the small card of six races at Hyderabad on Sunday. Walnut Creek led the field early, followed closely by Kohinoor Mystic and Alexander Square hugging the fence, a close third. As they rounded the final bend and came into the straight, Imran Khan on Alexander Square swiftly went for the gap along the rails and headed to take the lead. Surya Lakshmi came up with a challenge inside the last 200 metres but was no match for the winner and finished second. Walnut Creek and Royal Shaan finished third and fourth respectively.

The 4 year old Vijaysjyothi (Alnasr Alwasheek-Astana) from L.V.R.Deshmukh’s yard, whose maiden win was in the month of January this year, won the Deccan Bookmaker;s Trophy with a measure of comfort. Racing off the pace towards the rear till approaching the last 600 metres, Vijaysjyothi made a quick move around the field and surged ahead to be the first to be sighted on the straight. Jockey Arvind Joshi kept urging his mount and the filly kicked on to increase the lead. The favourite Askioz rallied on to finish second, in front of Airborne Magic and the long time leader Star Striker.

K.S.V.Prasad Raju’s Aerosmith (Rebuttal-Shantay) won the Democracy Plate by a big margin of nine lengths. Carson Troy and Silver Island were up in front together with Aerosmith angling to pounce behind them. With 400 metres left in the race, Silver Island stumbled and dislodged the rider. Wunderbar was also disturbed by the fall and the rider lost his balance and fell off his mount. Aerosmith in the meanwhile had taken charge and lengthened his strides under Nilesh Rawal to pick up his first win. Nano Desire finished second in front of Joel.

M.Sathyanarayana trained Hard Kingdom (Diffident-Roman Eagle) won the Half-A-Crown Plate, the concluding race of the day. Kohinoor Supreme was up in front from the start trying to run away with the race. Hard Kingdom in about sixth position as they came into the straight, was alighted to the task on the extreme outside and the 5 year old under G.Sai Vamshi moved fast to grab the lead 100 metres from home and won well. Alberton Star ran on to finish second. Rio Grande and Kohinoor Supreme filled the frame.

Sathyanarayana was the only professional to score a brace on the day, having won earlier on Rebut (Rebuttal-Rustle of Spring) in the higher division of the Godavari Plate. Having missed a win on a couple of occasions, Rebut won the race by a slender margin but not before causing anxiety to his vast supporters throughout the race. Molla had taken charge from Okai Okai Okai on the straight and Rebut started to move up but was beginning to run green. Jockey M.F.Ali Khan worked hard on Rebut and just managed to collar Molla in the shadow of the winning post.

L.D’Silva schooled Prince Prashant (Home Affairs-Admiration) won the opener, the lower division to earn his second win. Yours Truly was on a start to finish bid and Prince Prasanth covered almost five lengths from the rear and went ahead easily and stayed well. Rise of Emerald, August Kranti and Transition warmed up late to finish second, third and fourth respectively. A Horizontal Urge was a non starter in the race.
