Deshmukh schooled Machiavellianism (Jazil-Empress Jessie) won the Sri Shamlal Gupta Memorial Cup, a seven furlongs trip for horses in the highest category, considered to be a lung opener for the 3 year old before the 2000 Guineas coming up in just under three weeks. Machiavellianism was sent into the race at cramped odds going by the top billing the colt enjoys at this centre and the run of the mill opposition he was facing in the race. Jockey P.S.Chouhan did not have a job on hand while completing the formality in an impressive style. Golden Queen collared Melody Queen for the runner-up berth in the closing stages.

The highlights of the day were a treble by P.S.Chouhan and a brace of winners each by D.Netto, K.S.V.Prasad Raju and A.Imran Khan. Imran after winning the first two races of the day reported sick and did not fulfill his remaining engagements of the day.

D.Netto’s Nasheeta (China Visit-Tehema) was ridden out by Imran Khan to justify the favouritism in the C.Sathyanarayana Memorial Cup, the opening race of the day. Racing close on the haunches of San Ramon till the last 200 metres, Imran started to work his way on Nasheeta and surged forward to score an encore. San Ramon held on to finish second in front of The Leader, who started to warm up late.

Shamsuddin trained Baazigar (Chatham Strait-Rising Tide) collared Dandelion in the shadow of the winning post to win the Grace Hanover Plate, a 5 furlongs sprint for maiden two year olds. The ‘on money’ favourite Dandelion and Baazigar raced close to each other right from the start and came into the home stretch with the first named slightly ahead. Inside the last 300 metres, Dandelion started to drift out of the straight course and Baazigar who was beginning to apply pressure alongside was forced to shift out along with Baazigar. The two fought out the last 100 metres and jockey Imran Khan worked hard to get the better of Dandelion in the last few strides.

K.S.V.Prasad Raju’s Celtic Rose (Alnasr Alwasheek-Aureus) having run in better company in its last two runs was backed down to favouritism in the higher division of the Time and Place Plate. Jumping out smartly from the inner most draw, Celtic Rose led all the way till the winning post. Best Pal, in futile chase in the last 150 metres managed to hold on to the second place from Vijaysheel, who was finishing on.

K.Satheesh’s Price Warrior (Sunday Doubt-Integrity) scored an upset win in the lower division. Quick at start, Price Warrior hit the front from the beginning and made every post a winning one. Kohinoor Pride put pressure in the last 100 metres but B.Dileep rode out Price Warrior to kick on to the winning post. The favourite Dream Deal could only finish third.

Always Bullish (Storm Trooper-Blue Sonata), a consistent performer, having finished on board in all its seven runs, got into a terrific gallop inside the last 150 metres to win the Golden Dagger Plate with a measure of comfort. Racing in about eighth position on top of the straight, Donald Netto’s ward was brought on the extreme outside by P.S.Chouhan and the 3 year old gelding responded brilliantly to overhaul the horses in front. Ocean Side came up late to pip Bloody Mary for the second place. Dazzling Prince finished fourth.

M.Srinivas Reddy trained Aneres (Kly Green-Music in Motion), a winner her last start on the Derby day during monsoon, got up in the nick of time to beat Brianna on the post, in the Cabaret Plate. Brianna tracked Royal Scotsman till 1200 metres and moved ahead to rally in front from there on. Inside the last 100 metres Brianna was still in command with Kansas City Mac struggling hard in second. Aneres in the meanwhile was getting into top gear and with P.S.Chouhan riding like one processed devoured ground in the last 50 metres and put its head in front at the wire. The race favourite Ice Mountain travelled four off the fence all the way and once on the straight lost steam early to finish second last.

Prasad Raju’s Cannon Law (Case Law-Starissima) sprang a surprise to win in the Bakranangal Plate, the last race of the day. Queen’s Neclace was up in front all the way on the final straight with Chouhan riding out hard. Cannon Law improved steadily and matched strides with Queen’s Necklace throughout the last 50 metres and the bobbling of the heads went in favour of Cannon Law at the wire.
