Dinesh Pujar trainer Yankee Lane (Case Law-Zeisha) won the division 1 of the C.P.Chinnappa Memorial Trophy, which featured Wednesday’s card of seven races at Mysore, in a tight finish. Jockey M.Madhu Babu got Yankee Lane into striking position as the field entered the straight for the final run and pushed his way to take over the lead with 300 metres left from the wire. Much fancied Kangaroo Punch was off to a slow start, losing almost 3 lengths, came wide around the final bend to raise a flourish towards the closing stages and went past the winning post locked together. Yankee Lane had held on by a whisker at the finish. Express It and Indian Royalty were another two lengths adrift, finishing third and fourth respectively.

Prarap Kamath’s Seriously Perfect (Serious Spender-So Perfect), a winner on the opening day of the season, scored her second successive victory in the lower division. Seriously Perfect was quoted at liberal odds despite her recent success and those who dared to wager on the filly, cashed in a bounty. Seriously Perfect dropped back between 800 and 600 metres and as the field started to take the final bend improved steadily along the inside. On entering the home stretch, the filly was pulled out for a clear run and with a couple of backhanders, got into momentum to stretch out from the rest. Emerald was up with a strong challenge along the rails but could not get to the winner and finished second. The favourite Unchallenged ended up a tame third.

Trainer T.Natraj and jockey Himanshu teamed up to pull off a double through Royal Prodigy and Fight Your Way. Royal Prodigy (Royal Gladiator-Bountiful Gesture) won the Great Cherisma Plate, a mile trip for horses rated 20-45. Racing in about sixth position 500 metres from home, Royal Prodigy was brought around the field to grab the lead in the last 250 metres. Always For You was in second all through the final straight but lost out to the late finishing Queen’s Colour at the post.

Fight Your Way (European-Anzac Pride), who was in its only second run of the career, was sent into the Nanjangud Plate as the firm favourite. Heavenly Divas was in the lead all the way till the bend, with Real Potential in chase and Fight Your Way in third. Galloping with big strides, Fight Your Way took control inside the last 300 metres and held on gamely from a fast finishing Bella Coola. Prost caught up with Mischief to take the third spot.

A lot of money came on M.Bobby trained Sauce Piquant (Hammerstein-Rhinefield Beauty) after the horses left the parade ring, the odds plunging from ‘tens’ to close at 3-1. The 6 year old got to the front quickly, from the innermost draw and made every post a winning one in the higher division of the Manasagangotri Plate. Queen’s Cruise rallied late to take the second spot in front of Maximum City and Just Great.

P.C.Tejaswi’s Sun Rich (Hurricane State-Plumage), a failed favourite on the opening day, made amends in the hands of Fransisco Franco Da Silva, to win the lower division. Sun Rich responded readily to Da Silva’s urgings on entering the straight and went to the front and started to drift out of the straight course. Good Gift was improving steadily and inched closer but fell short by a ‘neck’ at the finish. Bahman finished third another three parts of a length adrift.

Vikram Appachu’s Supreme Strength (Case Law-Inkling) scored an encore in the extended trip of seven furlongs in the Kakanakote Plate. Racing with the front bunch till the last 600 metres, Supreme Strength was pushed to take it up and go clear. Oblique was in chase all through the straight to finish second.
