J.Sharavanan trained Kalyan (Tirol-Good Hope) made light of the top weight while pulling off a fine win in the Negresco Cup on Wednesday.Chantilly Jewel who was sent into the race as the firm favourite jumped out smartly from the gates and set out on a start to finish mission. Inside the last 400 metres, Chantilly Jewel was still travelling well with a lead of about  two engths. Blues And Royals was beginning to make a bid in second position but was finding it difficult to get to the leader. In the eanwhile stable mate Kalyan appeared on the scene and quickened readily to flash past Chantilly Jewel in the last 50 metres of the race. Chantilly Jewel just about held of to the second place from Rise And Rise and Blues And Royals.

 The day started off quite disastrously, with the first three races being won by rank outsiders. S.Rakesh trained Money Bay (Mt.Bellewood-Majestic Ceeson) was the saving grace for the followers of money, justifying the favouritism in the Fame And Glory Plate. The 4 year old gelding was racing in around fifth position as the field rounded the final bend and moving through the horses in front, got into a fine gallop responding to S.John’s urgings and shot to the front. Fire Vault who had taken charge on top of the straight was beaten convincingly by Money Bay. Emerald rallied late to finish a close third.

Trainer S.Rakesh had started off the day saddling his ward Bejewelled Beauty (Hymn-Spirit of Patxi) to victory in the lower division of the Mekedaatu Plate. Bejewelled Beauty showed plenty of speed at start to move quickly from an outer draw to get to the front along the inner fence. Leading all the way, Bejewelled Beauty kicked on in the straight and held on from the fast finishing Noughtsandcrosses. Maximum City finished third.

Trainer Pratap Kamath was the only other professional to score a double. He earned a back to back double with Daring Dynamite and Miyarprincess. Daring Dynamite (Midtown-sea Spray) won the Sahayadri Plate, a six furlongs sprint for horses rated 60 and above. Daring Dynamite moved quickly from ten draw to grab the lead at start and made every post a winning one. He had a two lengths lead on entering the final straight and kicked on to maintain the lead till the finish. Tusker was in chase all through the last 400 metres but failed to catch up with the winner and ended up second. Caterina and Time Flies filled the frame.

Miyarprincess (Brave Act-Sea Spray) took a flying jump st start and led all the way to the winning post in the higher division of the Pattadakal Plate. Legal Knight got into a striking position rounding  the final turn but did not find enough acceleration on the straight.  Rebecca was finishing on towards the closing stages but the winner was safely in front and the filly could only beat Legal Knight to be the runner-up.

The lower division was won by rank outsider  Scintillo (Glory of  Dancer-Tikreet) from Vishal Yadav’s stables. Greenbro led from the start and brought the field into view on the straight. Sterling Cruise moved along side near the 300 metres and shifted in dangerously putting Greenbro out of stride. Scintillo burst out of the pack all of a sudden with 250 metres from home and stretched out to spring a surprise. Bella Coola rallied late to finish second ahead of Sand Dune who never looked comfortable throughout the race, running 4 off from the fence all the way. Caldera finished fourth while Sterling Cruise burst its blood vessel and dropped out of contention.

M.Bobby’s Sarvani (Danehill Star-Silver Ring) set out in front from the start and held on by a neck at the finish. Penalty Kick warmed up late and came with big strides in the last 100 metres but the winning post came to the rescue of Sarvani. Bahman was third another three lengths adrift.

Trainer Bipin Salvi whose wards had finished second in three races earlier in the day, heaved a sigh of relief when Grand Warrior (Tirol-Her Highness) rallied well to win the higher division of the Mekedaatu Plate. Archer did the earlr running in front and faded out near the 300 metres. Gris Rapide started to make rapid progress around the field and Grand Warrior preferred to take the inner ground. Franco Fransisco Da Silva pushed Grand Warrior hard to surge ahead by three parts of a length at the finish.

Trainer T.Natraj’s Big Hero (Juniper-Enchante), the youngest among the ten horses in the race, put in a resolute gallop in the last 150 metres to earn his maiden win in the Crown Treasure Plate, the concluding race of the day. The favourite Glitterato set out on a start to finish mission but was no match when Big Hero stepped up momentum. Walter came in late to finish third in a close finish with Glitterato.
