Trainer Kishore C V G K leading Hurricane Bay (S John Up), winner of The Trigger Cup

C.V.G.K.Kishore trained Hurricane Bay (Young Senor-Annella) galloped resolutely under S.John inside the last 400 metres, to romp home in the Trigger Cup, which was the main event in the long card of ten races that were run on Wednesday at Mysore. Kishore, who was the only trainer at this centre without a win this winter, opened his account with Hurricane Bay and then went on to score a double with Spandau Ballet in the concluding race. The 8 year old Hurricane Bay had advertised its return to form, when he came from the rear to finish a notable third to Iron Marshall a week earlier but remained friendless in the race while Rebecca garnered most of the support. Into the home stretch, the favourite Rebecca went to the lead but was no match when Hurricane Bay came with a flourish from behind. Amazer and Spirituality filled the frame.

S.Rakesh schooled Sharp Girl (Sussex-Acquitaine) won the Harangi Plate, a five and a half furlongs sprint for maiden 3 year olds. Secret Treasure was the piping hot favourite in the race being sent in at cramped odds but the filly had to be withdrawn after being troublesome near the gates. Sharp Girl went on a start to finish bid and stretched out well on the home stretch to win comfortably. Rickety Rock was in futile chase all through the straight. Unexpected visitor finished third.

Trainers S.Rakesh, G.T.Surender and jockey M.Rajesh kumar were the other professionals who scored a double each. G.T.Surender pulled off a back to back double in the first two races of the day. Montag set the pace in the opener, the Antequera Plate and was a clear three lengths in front as they passed the distance post. Arc Angel (Classic Tale-Tele Sport) and Passage of Time started to gain ground in the last 100 metres and the duo surged past Montag and went past the winning post in a close finish. Arc Angel prevailed by a neck at the wire.

Apprentice M.rajesh Kumar who had partnered Arc Angelwas astride Surender’s Rosie’s Dream (Itaquere Power-La Villa Rose), the winner in the Sirsi Plate. Absence had fought out with Maverical on top of the straight and gone ahead nearing the distance post. Rosie’s Dream was in about eighth position till the last 400 metres and then started to make her move on the extreme outside. Galloping strongly, Rosie’s Dream surged clear inside the last 100 metres. Absence finished second while Rise And Rise ended up third, ahead of Maverical. Wychhael was a non starter in the race.

Rakesh’s second winner was Lake of Magic (Royal Kingdom-House on The Hill) in the lower division of the Thiruvananthapuram Plate. Maximum City rushed along the fence to take charge 300 metres from home and lake of Magic came charging from the wide outside. Bridging the gap at a fast pace, Lake of Magic got up in the nick of time to pip Maximum City on the post. Pearl of Bangalore was third another 2 1/2 lengths behind.

Voice Of India (Libor-Fabulously Bold) from the stables of S.Santosh Rao scored an encore in the higher division. The race favourite Born For Beauty was in front all the way from the start. Voice of India gained momentum inside the final furlong and went past the leader close to the winning post.

P.C.Tejaswi trained Sarang (Royal Gladiator-Noble Anchor) pulled off a surprise win in the B.Khanna Memorial Plate. Always on Top and Sarang moved strongly on the outside inside the last a50 metres and the latter surged clear towards the finish. Royal Prodigy and Noughtsandcrosses finished third and fourth respectively in a close finish with Always on Top.

Jockey Valdir De Sousa started to work his way on Zareer Darashah’s Sky High (Acclamation-Cois Cuain) from the top of the straight and sped past the leader Winning Desire towards the last 100 metres to win the lower division of the Gonikoppa Plate. Winning Desire held on to the second place from the fast finishing Sanatana.

Bipin Salvi trained Time Flies (Ontario-Ordina) whose last win was exactly a year ago, came with a sustained run down the final furlong to win the higher division. Bella Coola, Wynn and Visual Element filled the frame in that order.

Kishore’s Spandau Ballet (Brave Act-Screen Play) won the concluding race, the Himalayas Plate. Tracking the leader Omega Man right from the start, Spandau Ballet went ahead on top of the home stretch and with jockey D.Gnaneshwar going for the stick, stayed ahead by a ‘neck’ from the fast finishing Mr.Sunrise. Man United finished third, another half a length adrift.
