Trainer LVR Deshmukh leading Vijayshaurya (PS Chouhan Up), winner of The A.P.Race Horse Owners Association Trophy

Trainer L.V.R.Deshmukh and jockey P.S.Chouhan teamed up again to lift the A.P.Race Horse Owners Association Trophy with the 5 year old Vijayshaurya (Trade Fair-Troppa Freska). The nine furlongs trip which featured the day’s card of nine races had nine starters. Front Line set the pace with Vijayashaurya settling well in second. Nearing the 800 metres board, Handsome Hawk made headway to get to the second position and Chouhan on Vijayshaurya was not perturbed and waited patiently. As the field straightened up for the final run, Vijayshaurya quickened in a trice, to go to the lead 300 metres from home and displayed its potential as a true stayer. Mystical Knight rallied late to beat Jabel Queen for the second place. Handsome Hawk finished fourth.

Zoheb Shaikh trained Wunderbar (Ikhtyar-Gentle And Bold), who had failed to hit the board in all its three runs so far, sported a pair of wings to snatch the race from Superb on the last stride in the Makalu Cup. Superb set out in front over the 2000 metres trip and built a sizable lead over the others. Superb continued to bowl along in front as they approached the last furlong. Wunderbar, who was trailing the field all the way, started to get into a gallop. Covering over eight lengths in the last 200 metres, Wunderbar joined Superb at the finish. The magic eye gave the verdict in favour of Wunderbar, which turned out to be the biggest upset of the day.

Trainer L.D’Silva picked up both the divisions of the Allez Vite Plate, a five furlongs sprint for maiden 3 year olds. Both the winners were ridden by J.H.Christopher. Palm Springs (Placerville-Shalaya) who had found one better in all its three runs, finally found the speed to make every post a winning one in the lower division. Fairy Boy was in futile chase all through the home stretch. Beau Ideal (Don Micheletto-Shades of Beauty) romped home in the higher division. Jumping out well from the innermost draw, Beau Ideal went to the lead, closely followed by Flames of Forest. As they came into the straight, Beau Ideal stretched out well, to draw away from the field.  Flames of Forest finished second, ahead of Golden Art.

S.A.Shehzad Abbas trained The Leader (China Visit-Lei) completed a hat-trick in the Sardar Mohan Singh Bagga Memorial Cup, the first race of the day. The favourite Ashwa Shakti was in the lead from the start. The Leader started to move closer from the third position and with jockey A.Imran Khan riding out strongly, surged ahead to be a length in front of Ashwa Shakti at the finish. Jockey A.M.Tograllu scored a double, winning both the divisions of the Brown Sugar Plate. Tograllu guided K.S.V.Prasad Raju’s Elegant Approach (Hurricane State-Annakita) to a start to finish win in the higher division. The race favourite Ice Lolly was stretched fully in the last 200 metres but failed to get to the winner. Marquise and Molla finished third and fourth respectively.

Laxman Singh trained Secret Angel (Placerville-Diablo’s secret) justified the short price in the lower division. Racing a handy third till the final bend, secret Angel slipped in along the rails and shot into the lead. Garibaldi was hard at work towards the finish but found Secret Angel too good and settled for the second place.

A Horizontal Urge (Greensmith-Anntari) from the stables of J.Silvester scored an upset win in the Hovercraft Plate. Jumping out well from an outward draw, A Horizontal Urge moved quickly to lead the field. On the home stretch, the 5 year old kicked on to win easily from Deccan Queen. Inspiring Tunes and Max Baby filled the frame. There was some action in the Sunny Blossom Plate, the last race of the day. Over Shadow (Royal Gladiator-Shadow Dancing) completed its hat-trick in a very peculiar way.  The favourite Noble Honour was in the lead from the start and was travelling well inside the last 100 metres. Over Shadow (Royal Gladiator-Shadow Dancing), was chasing the favourite all the way but was finding it hard to collar the leader. In the last 50 metres, when the race looked to be in its safe keeping, Noble Honour ducked down very badly and Over Shadow surged forward to get a lucky win. Jockey Imran Chisty managed to hang on to his mount Noble Honour and finished second.
