Dr. Mustafa Alam Khan & trainer S A Shehzad Abbas leading Golden Phantom (Ch K Chary Up), winner of The Smt.Teegala Sulochana Reddy Memorial Cup

S.A.Shehzad Abbas trained Golden Phantom (Steinbeck-Blue Gardenia) won the Smt.Teegala Sulochana Reddy Memorial Cup, a mile contest for three year old horses. In a hard fought battle among three horses throughout the last two furlongs, Golden Phantom prevailed, to register its maiden victory. Jockey Ch.K.Chary, who had replaced an indisposed P.S.Chouhan on Golden Phantom, did full justice on the chance mount. Chocolate Soldier in front from the start was joined by Golden Phantom as they rounded the final turn. Rainbow In The Sky also moved closer on the outside and the three headed for a fight to the finish. Golden Phantom was a shade in front as they passed the 400 metres post but Chocolate Soldier was relentless and kept the fight alive. Inside the last 100 metres, Ch.K.Chary managed to squeese out a little extra from the youngster and surged forward to behalf a length in front at the finish. Rainbow In The Sky beat Chocolate Soldier for the runner-up berth. Riverdale was withdrawn before the race.

Jockey A.Imran Khan was the most successful professional, booting home four winners. He rode Chal Bhai Chal and Lady Luck for D.Netto while the other two winners came through S.A.Shehzad Abbas trained All Pepper and Aphrodisiac. Netto completed a treble through Ancillary while Shehzad equaled the effort with Golden Phantom in the feature. Trainer Anupam Sharma and jockey Carlos Henrique teamed up to pick up the first two races with Mukhtar and Symbol of Honour.

Chal Bhai Chal (Greensmith-Racing Dream) scored an encore in the Fire Heaven Cup. The top weighted Ashwa Shakti, who garnered maximum support in the betting, started off on a start to finish mission. Chal Bhai Chal and Aerosmith joined the leader near the distance post. Ashwa Shakti surrendered meekly and the other two matched strides in the last 150 metres. The stronger jockeyship of A.Imran Khan enabled Chal Bhai Chal to prevail over Aerosmith by a head at the wire. Ashwa Shakti finished a tame third.

Donald Netto schooled Ancilliary (Lucifer Sam-Auxiliary) rallied strongly under Nileash Rawal towards the finish to beat the ‘odds on’ favourite Ein Ein Ein in the Mount Everest Plate, a five and a half furlongs dash for maiden three year olds. Ein Ein Ein had got to the front, close to the inner fence from an outward draw and leading all the way had an advantage of nearly two lengths near the distance post. Ancilliary, racing a close fourth till the top of the home straight, moved closer and with Nilesh Rawal urging the youngster strongly, got the better in the last 50 metres.

Netto saddled his third winner of the day through Lady Luck (Ajaad-Sedgemere) in the Jockey Laxman Memorial Cup, a race framed in memory of veteran jockey Laxman, who lost his life on the race track during the last season. Big Boss showed up first on the final straight and held on till the last 300 metres. Lady Luck, who had lost a forward position during the early part of the race recovered lost ground and got to a striking position as they approached the final bend. With a sustained gallop, Lady Luck took charge from Big Boss mid way up the straight and in spite of drifting out of the straight course when challenged strongly by Golden Dash, jockey Imran Khan did well to hold on by a slender margin. Sarvagnya and Kohinoor Angel filled the frame in that order.

The four year old Gold Medal (Hurricane State-Alvinia) from the stables of K.Satheesh, rallied strongly in the last 100 metres to earn a maiden win in the Chilli Girl Plate. Our Mascot made a start to finish bid but went out of steam in the last 50 metres when Gold Medal stepped on the throttle. Skander covered plenty of ground towards the closing stages but could only beat Our Mascot for the second place.

Jockey Carlos Henrique rode out Anupam Sharma trained Mukhtar (Duja-Athlone) to victory in the higher division of the Elusive Pimpernel Plate, the opening race of the day. Hard Hit was the first to take the initiative mid-way up the straight. Henrique started to get vigorous on the favourite Mukhtar and the 5 year old gelding produced a gutsy gallop to surge ahead. Victory Sky warmed up late to finish third behind Hard Hit.

Anupam Sharma and Henrique packed a back to back double through Symbol of Honour (Rebuttal-Seattle Swan) in the lower division of the Elusive Pimpernel Plate. Incredible India set out to lead the field right from the start and was kicking on inside the last furlong. Symbol of Honour raced in about seventh position till the bend and gradually improved close to the fence. Inside the last 150 metres, the favourite Symbol of Honour had moved alongside the leader and when jockey Carlos Henrique started to work up, the filly responded readily and sped past. Incredible India held on in second. Prayer Call and Itsy Bitsy filled the frame.

Shehzad Abbas’s All Pepper (Gaswar-Cats Whiskers), who is in rousing form, won its fourth successive race, in the higher division of the Sir Bruce Plate. Setting off in front from the start, All Pepper kicked on under Imran Khan in the final furlong. Naughty Gal was driven hard to get to the leader but found All Pepper too hot to catch and had to settle for the runner-up berth. Oru Oru Oru and Alberton Star finished third and fourth respectively.

Shehzad and Imran Khan wrapped up the day with Aphrodisiac (Royal Gladiator-Persian Conquest) justifying the favouritism in the lower division, the concluding race of the day. Dream Deal was up in front, followed closely by Bound For Glory and Aphrodisiac racing a handy third. Inside the last 200 metres, the field spread across the track with Young Sapper also joining the fray along the fence. Aphrodisiac, carrying the top weight of 62 kilograms, picked up speed on the extreme outside inside the last 100 metres and scuttled away to register a fine win. Bound For Glory, Prince Paladin and Scubarioo filled the frame in that order, in a tight finish.
