Trainer T Natraj leading Royal Prodigy (Shiva Kumar Up), winner of The Own Ordain Cup

T.Natraj trained Royal Prodigy (Royal Gladiator-Bountiful Gesture) sprang a surprise in the Own Ordain Cup, which featured the long drawn card of ten races at Mysore on Wednesday. The 6 year old had finished third in its last two runs but with apprentice Shiva Kumar, who was yet to ride his first winner, being given the reins, there were very few who dared to put a dime on it. Being the last to jump out, Royal Prodigy stayed towards the tail till the last 500. Always Inspiring and Money Bay were disputing the lead on the home stretch and both of them began to weaken under pressure. Royal Prodigy, who was watching all the action from the rear, found the path along the inside opening up and went for that dream run. In the meanwhile Always on Top was also trying to improve but was stuck in a traffic jam. Jockey S.John managed to come free from the mess and Always on Top came with a flourish. Royal Prodigy also came flying along the fence and the two went past the winning post together. The ‘magic eye’ gave the verdict in favour of Royal Prodigy, giving its rider his maiden win. Money Bay and Fire Vault finished third and fourth respectively.

MicheaL Eshwer trained Treasure Mountain (Ace-Divine Diamond)completed a hat-trick in the Octogonal Plate, a seven furlongs trip for horses rated 80 and above. Virat ran in front followed closely by Treasure Mountain. As the entered the final straight, Treasure Mountain surged past Virat easily and won without being extended. Color Me improved late to get the better of Iron Marshall in a tight finish for the second spot. Hurricane Bay, who met with slight interference from Color Me, finished fourth.

M.Bobby trained Yakeen (Hurricane State-Excitement) won the Indi Plate, a five and a half furlongs dash for maiden 3 year olds. First timer Sinatra garnered most support in the betting with Yakeen being the second in demand. Young Gallant went into the front early and Yakeen settled well on its haunches. Into the final run, Yakeen moved forward and was not threatened at any stage. Sinatra beat the rest to finish second. Black Dragon and Coffee Time filled the frame.

Trainer J.Saravanan and apprentice M.Rajesh Kumar, who are heading their respective tally this season, combined to score a treble. They started off with Perfect Analysis (Juniper-Pristine Beauty) in the opener, the lower division of the Vesuvius Plate.  Perfect Analysis led the field right from the start. Inside the last 200 metres, Wychhaelstarted to get closer with every stride but Perfect Analysis continued to kicked on gallantly to hold on by a ‘head ’. Rise And Rise moved up along the rails to finish third.

The other two winners came through Rosie’s Dreams and Sugriv. Rosie’s Dreams (Intaquere Power-La Villa Rose) won the lower division of the Sriharikota Plate. Rich Rogue set out on a start to finish mission but came under pressure from Time Matters and Rosie’s Dreams mid-way up the straight. Rosie’s Dreams travelling the widest of them all, surged ahead in the last 100 metres and stretched out well. Time Matters finished second, in front of Rich Rogue.

Sugriv (Mischevious Music-Persian Conquest) was a successful coup that was pulled off by the connections in the Aperitivo Plate. Coming up with a sustained run on the home stretch, Sugriv took charge past the distance post and stayed well. Yankee Lane was fully stretched but found the winner a tough customer and settled for the second place. Voice of India came with a flash to take the third spot in a close finish with Yankee Lane.

S.Santosh Rao trained Peppr (Sharp Attack-Working Progress) scored an upset win in the higher division of the Vesuvius Plate. Lake of Fortune set out on a start to finish mission and looked good inside the last furlong. Peppr , running in about sixth position went for the gap along the inner fence and rushed forward to get the better close home. Just Great finished a close third.

Mumbai import, Rebecca (Byron-Reflectance) from Vishal Yadav’s stables, who had found one better in its last two runs, came good under apprentice M.Noornabi, to win the Gulburga Plate. Improving gradually from behind, Rebecca sneaked in through the inside and moved to the front easily. Amazer finished second, ahead of Lake Emerald and Sky High.

On a day dominated by outsiders, P.C.Tejaswi trained Euphoria (Aljabr-Barqaa) was the biggest upset. Tracking the leader Supreme Strength till the top of the straight, Euphoria took charge inside the last 400 metres . Supreme Strength tried to regain the lead with a re-run but failed to get to Euphoria. Truthandfaith finished third. Voodoo Moon was withdrawn before the race.

Another big upset of the day was C.D.Monnappa trained Always For You (International-Rainbow Vision) in the higher division of the Sriharikota Plate, the concluding race of the day. Huckleberry Finn and Always For You fought a fierce dual right through the home stretch and the latter travelled the better towards the finish.
