MONTPELIER COMPLETES A HAT TRICK ON LAST DAY

L.D’Silva trained Montpelier (Ad Valorem-Diarshana) completed a hat-trick  in the Rainbow Plate, run over seven furlongs for horses in the highest category. Fourteen horses lined up for the start of the race with Montpelier, a last start winner receiving strong support as the first favourite. Royal Shaan, Corvette, All Pepper and Strides of Glory were the first four in a cluster as the field went past the 600 metres pole, with Montpelier making slight headway to be in about ninth position. Entering the last 400 metres, Montpelier started to move up on the extreme outside, covering ground at a rapid pace and went ahead smoothly with 150 metres left from home. Aphrodisiac covered ground along the rails to finish second, while Qinghuangdao covered places from behind to take the third place ahead of Strides of Glory.      

Champion trainer of the season, D.Netto saddled a double through Yet Again and Rajkumar. It was a moment to cherish for jockey Kuldeep Singh, when he piloted Rajkumar (Eljohar-Tia) to victory in the higher division of the Auckland Plate. Kuldeep was astride his fortieth winner. Rajkumar got to the front from the start with Queen’s Necklace racing close on the haunches. Into the straight, Rajkumar stretched out easily to gain a clear advantage. Camacho Speed, Komo Komo Komo and Prayer Call filled the frame in that order.

Yet Again (Oath-Romantic Pleasure) was back to winning ways in the Shilparamam Plate. The ‘on money’ favourite Enigma was in front all the way and came in to the home stretch almost three lengths in front. Nearing the last 300 metres Enigma began to lose pace rapidly and Yet Again moved forward. Symbol of Beauty finished second while All The Fun and Midnight Beauty filled the frame.

The other trainer to have two winners on the last day of the season was Anupam Sharma. His ward Bernabeu (Don Micheletto-Blue Spirit), who was winless from  eighteen runs, finally made it in the Wellington Plate. Khabza and Max Baby were fighting it out as they moved into the last furlong and Bernabeu came with a flourish to floor the front runners. Itsy Bitsy came up fast towards the closing stages but could only get the better of Khabza for the second place. Max Baby finished fourth.   

Anupam wound up with the inform Brahamani (Hymn-Jukebox) completing a hat-trick in the lower division of the Thunder Cloud Plate, the concluding race of the day. Compromise had gone past the early leader Sun Bird inside the last 300 metres and Brahmani made its bid on the extreme outside and with a resolute gallop under Carlos Henrique, sizzled past to win. Compromise held on to the second place. Ruffiano and So Super finished third and fourth respectively.

K.V.Srinivas schooled Staminoizd (Oath-Alice Wonder) registered a facile maide win in the higher division of the Strategic Prince Plate, the opening race of the day. Kohinoor Desire came into the home stretch first, closely followed by Fair And Square. The latter surged past to take it up inside the last 300 metres. Staminoizd began to move up from third position and had the measure of the Fair And Square inside the last 150 metres. Fair And Square remained a maiden, finishing second, ahead of Kohinoor Desire.

M.Sathyanarayana’s Jamie (Weather Warning-Sweet Pea Jamie) won the lower division. Sent into the race at ‘half money’, Jamie was taken to the front from an outside draw by Kurshad Alam and rallied well to make every post a winning one. Just Once was in chase all the way but found the winner beyond reach and settled for the second place. Rock Heights covered some ground in the last 150 metres to finish  a close third, behind Just Once.

K.S.V.Prasad Raju trained Bold Attack (Sharp Attack-Tarq Asmi) was given a confident ride by Nilesh Rawal to win the lower division of the Auckland Plate. Bold Attack headed past Yours Truly near the 600 metres pole and the two were well clear of the rest as they came into the last 400 metres. Nilesh kept a straight course on Bold Attack along the inner fence and Yours Truly was getting stronger on the outside. Bold Attack kicked on strongly to hold on and win from Yours Truly.

Laxman Singh trained Naughty Gal (European-Gaslight) carried the top weight of 61 kilograms to a pillar to post victory in the higher division of the Thunder Cloud Plate. Naughty Gal came in to the home stretch with a lead of over four lengths and stretched out easily. Dazzling Prince, Dark Avenger and Overshadow filled the frame in that order.
