By Mahendra Mallya | 17 Mar 2013 | MUMBAI

Mr Dinsha P Shroff, Mr Munchi P Shroff, Mrs Leena Suri & trainer Dallas Todywalla leading Blue Ace (A Sandesh Up), winner of The Pronto Pronto Trophy

Dallas Todywalla was seen leading-in winners more often than his professional adversaries as he ran through races two, three and four to bring out a wonderful hat-trick of victories. He started the roll with a solid victory with his charge Windmill Lady (Ace – Shalaya) in the second race of the day.

Windmill Lady darted into the lead soon on start and was well ahead of Emerald Fortune. Casino Jack, the other heavily backed runner (in fact he replaced Windmill Lady as the favourite at race time), was keeping company with Manyara, occupying the fourth position. Once they turned for home, Windmill Lady ridden by Kavraj Singh, quickened well to establish a handy lead. He was ridden out hard and Kavraj didn’t let his guard down, carrying on, urging the filly right up close to the winning post. Emerald Fortune, who chased the winner right from the start, ending doing so. Casino Jack did not justify the faith posed on him and ran on to finish a tame third.

Blue Ace (Ace – Blue Horizon) was Dallas’ next and more impressive winner. It looked an open race with good performers like Clinton, Okavango and Spirit of Mercy in the lineup. It was Okavango who throttled ahead passing Spirit of Mercy nearing the 1800 meter mark and set a sedate pace to the race. Blue Ace was third with Clinton tailing behind White Night coming into the backstretch. Okavango was finished by the time they turned for home and fell back as Spirit of Mercy moved to the front. Blue Ace then warmed up nice to come charging in and grab the lead with about 300 to go. Clinton by then and got past White Knight and Okavango and started to improve. However, he had left it for too late and there was an insurmountable gap to cover and Blue Ace was not slowing down one bit. Blue Ace galloped on strongly to pick up the Pronto Pronto Trophy clearly outpacing Clinton and the rest.

Mountain Force (Placerville – Frost Queen) had to fight hard to complete the hatrick for his master. He led the field all the way going at a comfortable pace right through. Nush was in chase with favourite Sophisticated in third; Honest Pleasure was close up next and had only Cypress Point behind him. Into the straight, Mountain Force galloped on, young Kavraj Singh goading him on, Trevor atop Sophisticated got himself into trouble trying to force his way between Mountain Force and a tiring Nush. Honest Pleasure breezed in to join Mountain Force and the two began a hard fought battle. Honest Pleasure covered ground to join Mountain Force with just about 300 to go. Honest Pleasure got a breast but Mountain Force was not one to give up. Kavraj and Sandesh took the fight right to the wire and in the end Mountain Force prevailed by the narrowest of margins.

Lesser fancied Hot Pepper (Whywhywhy-Dixie Dahlin)from the stables of S.S.Shah was ably ridden by T.S.Jodha to a maiden victory in the Toyota Camry Cup. Racing second last in a field of seven, Hot Stepper began to improve places but started to lug in. One Wish in the meanwhile had taken charge and was looking good. Jockey T.S.Jodha pulled out Hot Pepper for a clear run and using the stick freely got the 4 year old to raise a spirited gallop to shoot past One Wish in the closing stages of the race. Queen’s Camp and Fond Memories finished third and fourth respectively.

Invincible (Mr Mellon – Strike It Right) lived up to her name and the expectations of her many followers who backed her confidently. However, there were some late heartbeats for her supports when Flash came with a scorching finish to nearly upset the applecart of the favourite.

Invincible charged ahead soon on start and led comfortably going at a good clip. Chasing her into the straight were Baroness and Cosmic Dancer trying hard to match strides. In the final furlong, Invincible appeared to have pocketed the race as neither Baroness not Cosmic Dancer were making any serious impact on the leader. It was in the final 100 meteres that Jimmy Fortune pulled out Flash and made a powerful forward surge and almost succeeded in pipping Invincible on the most. Had Trevor let his guard down, he would have been embarrassed on the post. He however, rode out all the way leaving nothing to chance and that paid off handsomely. Flash showed a terrific surge in the dying moments of the race and should consider herself a trifle unlucky to miss a debut win. She however, wont have to wait long to experience her moment in the sun.

The six year old Twittillator (Black Cash-Dasahara), who had remained winless from ninteen runs, finally made it to the winner’s enclosure in the opener, the lower division of the Memories of you Plate. Trainer Robert D’Mellow who was not among the winners for a long time led in his first win of the season. The favourite Midnight Lady was the smartest out from the gates andgot to the lead quickly. Twittillator tracked the leader a little over a length behind till the 300 metres pole and stretched out easily to score a resounding win. Midnight Lady finished second while Mcqueen managed to pip Tomorrows Dreams close to the winning post for the third place. Run Like The Wind dislodged the rider immediately after jumping out.

Raging public choice Amara (Ace-Queen Earnest) from S.K.Sunderji’s yard scuttled to an emphatic encore in the lower division of the Riyasat Plate under Patel Trevor. A winner over seven furlongs in its previous run, Amara raced a handy fourth behind Prize Fighter, Ice Skater and Sea Pearl till mid-way up the straight and surged ahead with a fluent gallop inside the last 250 metres. Calypso Queen came up with an enthuastic run towards the last 150 metres to finish second in front of Suntan Beauty.

Mansoor Shah trained Song of Sparrow (Jeremy-Shirly Moon) won the higher division, the concluding race of the day. Jumping out from an outward draw, Song of Sparrow was quickly behind the leader Blind Date. Into the final run on the straight, Song of Sparrow grabbed the lead and kicked on till the winning post. The favourite Edith Piaf was hard at work to get to the leader but could not match strides. Zaracha finished on late to take be the runner-up, beating Edith Piaf.

For the professionals trainer Dallas Todywalla scored a treble, while jockeys Kavraj Singh, Trevor Patel and A.Sandesh scored a brace each.
