BRAVE VISION TRIUMPHS WITH A MEASURE OF COMFORT

By Mahendra Mallya | 06 Apr 2013 | MUMBAI

Mr Haresh N. Mehta leading Brave Vision (Trevor Patel Up), winner of The Kailashpat Singhania Trophy

The ten-race card slated for Saturday panned out a fair day for both the bookies and the punters alike as four prime fancies obliged and most other races saw horses in contention emerge victorious, barring Ice Skater, ridden by long time winless jockey Hanumant Singh, who stumped the followers of form (both horse’s and jockey’s),winning at mind-boggling odds.

Brave Vision (Senure – Desert Sunrise) was the second in demand after Sugar Loaf to win the Kailashpat Singhania Trophy. The SK Sunderji trainee galloped on resolutely in the stretch to come from the fifth-sixth position and pass all the top contenders in full flight and win handsomely.

Emerging Star led them into the straight with a handy lead at that. Sugar Loaf and Snow Blaze started to work their way up to challenge the leader. At the distance post, it looked anybody’s race as the trio were fierce grappling for top honours. Brave Vision started to accelerate and joined the bunch. He had a good momentum going and he easily galloped past them all to win with a measure of comfort. Sugar Loaf fought his way to take the next best slot ahead of Emerald Valley who rallied from behind to snatch the place money from Emerging Star.

Edith Piaf (Black Cash – Selerina’s  Song) made ample amends for her last start disappointment and this time won readily although Purple Mokara clipped the margin in the last few strides. Stolen Relic showed the way to the field and kicked on after leading them homewards. Past the 400 meter mark, Ice Empire and Banana Boy looked in contention, but both were floored when Edith Piaf started to quicken from the outside. Purple Mokara paved her way closer to the inner rails and made a forward surge between horses. By then, Edith Piaf had stolen a march and was galloping strongly towards the winning post. Purple Mokara went all out after Edith Piaf but jockey Neeraj Rawal ensured that Edith Piaf was safe and elusive to win convincingly and clinch the Division I of the Tulipa Trophy.

The lower division of the Tulipa Trophy was claimed by rank outsider Ice Skater (Blck Cash – Touch a Star) in a ridiculously easy start to finish effort. Ice Skater, trained by HJ Antia,  shot into the lead and worked up a sizable lead once they turned for home. Menage A Trois who had settled to chase the leader was not getting anywhere closer in the straight either. Vaile Rouge could never recover from a tardy start and although he improved positions to be in the picture in the first quarter of the homestretch, he was a spent force at the business end to finish well off the frame. Mateus Rose applied herself to make a final bid, but by that Ice Skater and Hanumant Singh were out of focus for Mateus Rose. She did well to finish fast to claim the runner up berth, pegging back Menage A Trois in the process. Walk of Life did much better than just ‘walk’ and graced the frame to show good improvement in the final furlong. For Jockey Hanumat Singh, this was a victorious ride after a very long time and this would do wonders to restore his confidence.

Antia saddled another winner in the last race thus becoming the lone professional to score a double on the day. His Wind Craft (Aragorn – Tight Circle) crafted a narrow win warding off a bunch of rivals snapping at his tail.

Wind Craft brought the field home and soon darted off ahead. Star Blessings joined the issue and both pulled away from the rest. The pair fought out the final furlong with Starsonboard and Ceasarina making little impact on these two. Matter of Heart came in with a late blitz and got on the fighting duo. The finish was three-pronged with Wind Craft holding on by the skin of his teeth from Matter of Heart who was a split second too late. Star Blessings finished with the duo to do well earning place money.

Purple Patch (Alnasr Alwasheek – La Unique) wore down his opponents in a rough finish involving all the five runner finishing in a cluster. Purple Patch took over the running soon on turning for home and sped ahead. Octopaul began to look a threat as he started to move in along with Fortune Hunter. Running Sun was battling on along the rails and this pair was finding it hard to shake him off. Purple Patch was galloping on and with his rivals snapping at his tail they were surely heading for a close finish. Purple Patch had enough legs to hold on as the rest were charging in. Running Sun held on for the second spot just ahead of Fortune Hunter and Octopaul. Seven Seas too finished alongside them.

Feodor (Captain Rio – Motocross) was the shortest priced runner on the day and he obliged without causing any anxiety. Colourful Prince entered the straight with a handy lead and was on a tight rein too. He was followed by Ainra but Feodor rose from the mid-bunch to come with a flourish in final 300 meters. He easily surged past Colourful Prince and won drawing away. There was no other threat in sight. Colourful Prince settled to take the runner up berth clearly beaten by Nina Lalvani trained Feodor. Ainra ran to place third.

Mars (Ace – Queen Ann) outpaced favourite Jeremiah in the nine-furlong Robinson Plate planning his finish early.  Noble Reward took over the running from Schumii just before the turn and took off into the straight. Past the 400, Mars moved up to close in with Gitano too trying to narrow the gap. While Gitano failed to sustain, Mars surged past Noble Reward to take charge and speed away. Jeremiah was way to far back, but rallied in the final furlong and had too much to do. He did cover a lot of ground showing good speed in his finishing effort. Had he made his move another 100 meters earlier, he may have finished on a lot closer or even gone on to beat the winner. That was not to be, however, Jeremiah looks a good prospect the next time out.

IL Moran (Senure – Sunspangled) won most impressively and encountered no resistance while stamping his authority in winning his first race. Krypton led them into the straight with Run Like The Wind in chase and IL Moran beginning to inch forward. Past the distance post, IL Moran got the measure of Krypton and accelerated tremendously to zip past them all and win running away. Desert Eagle came from the fifth position to get past Run Like The Wind to ran a tame second. Carpe Diem ran on to finish in the frame.

Stylish Strokes (Hymn – Different Strokes) was indeed stylish in his victory and thumped the opposition leaving no chance for any of them to come and get him.  Taking of right from the start, Stylish Strokes got stronger once they turned for home. Allegiance who chased the leader right through, ended doing so. Favorite Winds of Change who was third into the straight went out like a bulb and finished in the rut. The Saint put in a good effort in the closing stages to gain ground and end in the money.

Nigella (China Visit – Supreme Discovery) pulled off her maiden win in a nice fashion stunning them all and carving out a narrow half length victory over fancied Daredevil, who was a wee bit too late on the scene. Saminyak tore away to an extensive lead early on only to peter out when it mattered. Saminyak packed up soon on turning for home with Glowing Mist getting past him with ease. Soon Nigella made her appearance with a forceful run and took charge past the distance post. Daredevil then made a strong bid to wrest the initiative but Zameer Sayyed with his persistent riding warded off the stiff challenge to hold on by a narrow margin.

Jockey P Trevor later took an objection against Nigella for bumping him off at the start, which was overruled.
