Magician (Joseph O'Brien Up), winner of The Irish 2000 Guineas (Gr.1)
Trainer Aidan O’Brien continued his dream run in the Irish 2000 Guineas, winning the 2013 edition with Magician, taking his count to nine. Trading Leather took over the running from Ask Dad after the first furlong and raced at a rapid pace. Magician settled comfortably in third. Jockey Joseph O’Brien started to make his move on Magician with a little less than three furlongs left to go. The son of Galileo travelled easily to get to the front with a furlong away from the finish and quickened superbly to win by a clear three and a half lengths. Stable companion Gale Force Ten did well to improve inside the last 2 furlongs and grab the runner-up berth from trading Leather close home.
"He’s a very tough horse and tries very hard, stays well and handles fast ground," said Joseph O’Brien. "He is improving every day and has loads of pace. I couldn’t say he wouldn’t get further than 10 furlongs either."
