Just The Judge (Jamie Spencer Up), winner of The Etihad Airways Irish 1000 Guineas (Gr.1)
Just The Judge tasted success in the Etihad Airways sponsored Gr.1 Irish 1000 Guineas at Curragh race track on Sunday. Jockey Jamie Spencer sported the Burgundy and Gold silks of Qatar Racing Limited on the winner, giving trainer Charles Hills his first Group 1 and Classic victory. Barry Hills, father of Charlie had won this event twice as a trainer.
Just The Judge broke well from the gates and settled to be a close fourth for half the distance. Approaching the last two furlongs, Just Pretending quickly headed to the front but couldn’t match the strides of Just The Judge when the filly unleashed a challenge towards the final 150 yards. Rehn’s Nest came up strongly towards the finish but could only peg back Just Pretending for the second place.
"She's a diamond filly” said Hills.“She's a great filly to deal with, so easy and very professional. Jamie has given her a peach [of a ride]. He rode her just like he said in the paddock to the stride. The Coronation Stakes should really suit her."
Jamie Spencer, who is retained to sport the ‘Qatar Racing’ colours said: "She's a smart filly. I got a good position and at halfway I was very happy and it all went really well. She's a filly we always thought would want further and she'll be even better when she goes further."
