INTELLO DAZZLES IN THE FRENCH DERBY
By Racing Correspondent | 03 Jun 2013 |
Andre Fabre trained Intello won the G1 Prix Du Jockey Club - the French Derby, on Sunday at Chantilly race course. The son of Galileo, who was a bit unlucky to finish third in the French 2000 Guineas, made amends under Oliver Peslier to triumph in the Derby. Ridden in a prominent forward position for most part of the trip, Intello quickened with alacrity entering the final straight and outpaced stable companion Sky Hunter passing the furlong pole. Once into the lead Intello was driven out strongly by Peslier to win by two lengths. Morandi came on late to snatch the second place from Sky Hunter close home by a slender margin.
Oliver Peslier who now has a four from four success score on Intello said, “That was a very good run. We knew he was a horse with plenty of speed so I didn’t want to take any chances, He traveled very well and once I asked him he jumped to it and won nicely."
Trainer Andre Fabre leading in his third French Derby winner remarked, "This was a really good winner of the French Derby and he has a lot of qualities--he has speed, he stays well, has a good turn of foot and a very good temperament.”
