Trainer T Natraj leading Orient Glory (Fr Co F Dasilva Up), winner of The Hyderabad Race Club Trophy

T.Natraj trained Orient Glory (Placerville-Orient Dance) reproduced its earlier run, to score an encore in the Hyderabad Race Club Trophy, a seven furlongs race for horses rated 60 and above. The six year old which had won a 1200 metres race as a shocker a fortnight ago, found the extra furlong within its compass, showing plenty of speed under Fransisco Fa Da Silva. Racing a close third while Bucethalis and Royal Shaan disputed the lead, Orient Glory ranged alongside showing urgency and rushed to the front on entering the home stretch. Ashkan finished second with a late run but Demanding Format was the one to catch the eye while finishing third.

The other Trophy race of the day was the Stewards Cup, for horses rated 40 – 65, run over seven furlongs. The bottom weighted Sofast (PhoenixTower-Shiseido) from Micheal Eshwer’s stable just rocked, winning the race by a good five lengths. Jockey Imran Chisty held back Sofast to run in fourth position till approaching the final bend. Moving around the runners in front as they took the turn, Sofast grabbed the lead swiftly and drew away. The filly was spotted a winner long way from home. Defining Moment beat the rest to be the runner-up. Money Bay was a far away third.

Da Silva scored a double, winning the opener of the day, the lower division of the Harangi Dam Plate, for maiden three year olds, on Bipin Salvi schooled Stride To Success (Don Micheletto-Success Heiress). Beautiful Fin, Dasara Queen and Set to Storm were huddled up closely in front with the favourite Stride To success settled well in fourth. As the field straightened up, Da Silva took the gap between Dasara Queen and Beautiful Fin and his filly responded readily to quicken through. Shubkamna came in late to finish second ahead of Chandini.

The higher division was won by C.D.Monnappa trained Coffee Time (Fantabulous King-Time Is Money). Jockey P.S.Chouhan, who was getting back from a ‘forced holiday’, was astride the winner. Coffee Time headed to the front at start, came well ahead of the rest on the straight and stepped up the momentum to swell the margin. Born Electric on its first run finished second while the favourite Carisa who was more towards the rear for most part of the race came in to end up third. Nasty Rider was a non-starter in the race.

Chouhan had just a race earlier announced his return to the saddle, piloting Monnappa’s Dance of a General (Hurricane Centre-Valencia) to an effortless win in the Somwarpet Plate. The ‘General’, sent into the race at ‘money back’ odds took a good jump at start and moved up steadily to be behind the front running Mountain Glory. Nearing the last two furlongs, Chouhan just reminded his mount of the task and the four year old carrying 60 kilograms on its back moved with alacrity to score a thumping win. Vrajanandan finished second while Persian moved up to be third with minimum effort from the saddle.

Ranjeet Shinde trained Impedimenta (Black Cash-Bon Sang) ridden by R.Vaibhav won the Goa Plate. Finishing on board on many occasions after its win in September 2011, Impedimenta finally got to the winner’s enclosure with the right money coming its way. Hovering in around fourth position till rounding the final bend, Impedimenta moved swiftly to take charge and gallop clear of  Spark of Beauty. The rider of Spark of Beauty took an objection on the winner for interference near the 400 metres and the same was overruled in no time.

Born For Beauty (Hymn-Spirit of Patxi) from the stables of J.Saravanan won the Takshashila Plate with a start to finish effort. Aerial Acrobat tried to match strides on top of the straight but failed in its attempt and fell back. The favourite Crrisp then started to move strongly but started to lug in and failed by a ‘head’ after fighting out the last 100 metres. Flirting King, Rock All and Tornado Force were withdrawn before the race.

M.Bobby trained Wimbeldom Star (Concordial-Golden Pari) moved fast inside the last 50 metres to get the better of the race favourite Maverical by a neck at the wire. Maverical managed to get to the lead, mid-way up the straight after chasing Ace High but could not produce that acceleration to move away. Wimbeldon Star started to get stronger in the last 150 metres and sped past Maverical in the shadow of the winning post. Queens Cruise finished third.

The consistent Heavenly Divas (Warrshan-Cup of Gold) from Pratap Kamath’s yard earned its third win, carrying the top weight of 62 kilograms in the Irappu Falls Plate, the concluding race of the day. Taking a good start, Heavenly got to the front quickly and kicked on in the final stretch. Little Athena tried its best to get to the leader but in vain. Historica finished third.

For the professionals Trainer C.D.Monnappa, jockies P.S.Chouhan and Fransisco Fa Da Silva scored a brace each.
