Sole Power (Johnny Murtagh Up), winner of the King's Stand Stakes (Gr.I)

Kyllachy’s Sole Power trained by Edward Lynam produced a brilliant turn of foot under Johnny Murtagh to win the G 1 King’s Stand Stakes in a grand stand finish, at the Royal Ascot. The race favourite Shea Shea had forged ahead on entering the final furlong and was looking good when Sole Power which was held up towards the rear had plenty of work to do. Murtagh switched his mount left and with some strong riding the 6 year old flashed on with a splendid gallop to snatch the race from the favourite in the shadow of the winning post.

The winning jockey Murtagh said, "It is a brilliant meeting. As a jockey this is where you want to be performing - to ride good horses for great people. I get on well with him and I know what he likes. He's got a great turn of foot and is very willing."

Trainer Eddie Lynam, basking in his first Royal success added, "Sole Power’s not always been lucky, but he’s always been good."
