The Duke of York presents The Queen with a trophy after her horse Estimate won the Gold Cup

It was a delightful moment for The Queen at the Royal Ascot when Sir Michael Stoute trained Estimate carried Her Majesty’s Silks to a glorious win in the G1 Gold Cup. The 4 year old which was impressive while winning the G3 Queen’s Vase at this course a year ago had once again displayed winning form recently in the G3 Sagaro Stakes. Sent into the race as the favourite at 9-2, Estimate was racing close to the leaders for most part of the race and approaching the final furlong headed to the front. Simenon and Top Trip made a valiant bid towards the finish but jockey Rayan Moore went strongly on Estimate to hold off their challenge. Simenon was second, a neck behind while Top Trip was third another length away.

"This is fantastic to ride a winner for the Queen here and to do it in the Gold Cup is very special," said the winning rider Rayan Moore. "The beauty of this filly is she relaxes very well and does it for you."

”She showed a lot of courage, because she had to beat one and then stave off another," said the trainer Sir Michael Stoute. "She switches off so well, but I really felt it was a seriously tough task for her and I couldn’t be confident at all. It is a great honor and a great thrill, as we know how much Her Majesty loves this game."
