LOTUS POND SCAMPERS AWAY IN THE NAIRN CUP

Trainer C D Monnappa leading Lotus Pond (N Rajesh Up), winner of The Nairn Cup

C.D.Monnappa trained Lotus Pond (Juniper-Loving Girl) scampered to a facile win in the Nairn Cup, a six furlongs sprint for horses rated 60 and above. On a that went well for the followers of money with five horses in the money obliging in the card of seven, Lotus Pond was offered at nourishing odds. Daring Dynamite set out on a start to finish mission with Lotus Pond tracking it closely. As they approached the distance post on the home stretch, Lotus Pond moved alongside the leader and with a strong gallop heaved forward to win by over three lengths. Demanding Format finished third ahead of Time Flies.

Azure Fire (Tejano-Crown secret), owned and trained by Pratap Kamath made every post a winning one in the Konark Cup, a five and a half furlongs dash for three year old horses. Always Love and Perfect Cruise were withdrawn before the race and the reduced field of ten faced the starter. Azure Fire rushed to the front at start. Ace Princess chased the leader about two lengths behind with Carisa in third an identical distance away. Inside the last 300 metres Carisa started to move up but came under pressure and veered out of the straight course. Azure Fire quickened well to be over a length clear from Carisa at the finish. Ace Princess finished third.  

Monnappa was the only professional to score a double. His other win came with the Mumbai import Distant Promise (Mr.Mellon-Over the Ocean) in the Itarsi Plate. With just one run to acclimatize with the track here, Distant Promise produced a spirited gallop inside the last 200 metres to justify the favouritism. After a good jump and leading for a short distance, Distant Promise settled in third position while Mountain Glory and Sequanna disputed the lead. Rounding the final bend Huckleberry Finn hurried up around the field to get to the front. Distant Promise saved ground towards the rails and finding a small gap, accelerated readily to settle the issue long way from home. Vertex finished third behind Huckleberry Finn. Mr.Hurricane was withdrawn before the start.

T.Natraj trained Smokin Aces (Diffident-Credential) earned its first corn bill at Mysore after shifting base from Kolkata a year ago. Taking a speedy start from eleven draw, Smokin Aces rushed to get to the lead along the inner rails. Entering the final straight three lengths clear of the nearest challenger the ‘Aces’ stretched out easily to increase the lead to five lengths at the finish. Spark of Beauty and Alizadeh were in futile chase all through the last two furlongs and the latter finished second. 

Atom Bomb (Hymn-Applause) successfully pulled off a good gamble for the stables of S.Rakesh in the Varanasi Plate, the first race of the day. Atom Bomb disputed the lead with Maverical till the last 600 metres and forged ahead. Maverical was in chase all through the straight but Atom Bomb kicked on gamely to win by three lengths.

C.V.G.K.Kishore trained Carisma(Mr.Mellon-Romona) which had found one better in its last two runs, came good in the Paschimavahini Plate to shed its maiden ranks. Racing a handy third or fourth till approaching the final turn, jockey Fransisco Fa Da Silva rode out Carisma to grab the lead on top of the straight and was clear all through the final stretch. Born to Perform found the winner hard to catch and settled for the second place.

Jockey D.Gnaneshwar piloted M.Bobby trained Aristocratic (China Visit-Adored) to a popular win in the Doddaballapura Plate, the concluding race of the day. The 7 year old looked very keen right from the start but was ridden in check in second behind Indian Royalty. Entering the straight, Indian Royalty started to veer out, losing out the forward position. Aristocratic took charge effortlessly and stretched out to extent the margin to 6 lengths. Brave Assault was in second all through the straight. Esoterical finished on being third.
