Trainer Kishore C V G K leading God Is Great (Trevor Patel Up), winner of The T.V.Reddy Memorial Cup

Trainer C.V.G.K.Kishore is having a dream run this summer. He saddled a double in a small card of six races with the highlight being a thunderous hat trick by God is Great (Flitch-Fire Flight). The 4 year old gelding which had not seen the winning post in fifteen outings, has hit a purple patch this season, winning three successive starts. Jockey P.Trevor who had partnered God is Great in its first win was on the saddle again in the T.V.Reddy Memorial Cup.

AS the ten runners were dispatched for the seven furlongs trip, Its My Party went to the lead closely followed by Sanatana, Knowledge, Prezzie and God is Great, with the rest of the field behind. Nearing the last 300 metres Sanatana made headway to take charge. Trevor started to work on God is Great and went for the gap along the inner rails. God is Great got stronger in the last 50 metres and forged ahead to snatch the win from Sanatana by a long neck.

Kishore’s Jump in the Red (Opportunist-Malaga Cove) won the six furlongs Sea Biscuit Plate for maiden 3 year old horses. After a good start, Jump in the Red settled to run a close third behind Secret Treasure and Princess of Syria. As they came into the last 400 metre, the favourite Princess of Syria surged forward to lead. Jump in the Red made its way between Secret Treasure and the ‘Princess’ and moved strongly to go away by 1 ½ lengths. Aglaia and Rickety Rock went wide and finished third and fourth respectively on the extreme outside.

Vikram Appachu trained Ace High (Ontario-Indira) scored an encore in the lower division of the Gundulpet Plate. Ace High in its customary fashion hit the front from the start, tracked closely by Aerial Acrobat and The Senator. On top of the home stretch Aerial Acrobat moved alongside Ace High with a strong challenge and the two matched strides all the way till the finish. Ace High kept the tempo till the winning post to win by a ‘short head’. The Senator moved closer towards the closing stages to be third three parts of a length behind. The favourite Brigade’s Paradise trailed the field all the way and it was observed to have burst its blood vessel.

A good gamble was successfully pulled off through Getafix (Black Cash-Czarina) in the higher division. The Ranjeet Shinde trainee who’s last run was over seven months ago, was backed with conviction during race time. Settling well along the inner rails in about fifth position, Getafix was pulled left as they started to round the final turn to make its bid widest of all. Getafix sped past the leader Amiable Lady mid-way up the straight and held off the strong challenge of Party Tonite in the last 100 metres. Amiable Lady was third a little over four lengths away while Winning Desire finished fourth.

S.Rakesh trained Atom Bomb (Hymn-Applause) started off the day in the Davanagere Plate, making it two wins in a row. Samajdaar and Atom Bomb were up in front as they came in for the final run and Vertex with a good gallop moved past the two to take charge. Inside the last 250 metres Vertex started to drift out alarmingly and got into the sand track in front of the grand stand. Having sensed the opportunity, apprentice Sarvan Kumar worked his way to get Atom Bomb gallop with renewed effort and shot past Vertex, who was virtually stopping. Samajdaar and Samrat flashed on to finish second and third respectively ahead of Vertex.

The 5 year old Maverical (Quest Star-Sweet Suzzanne) which was winless from 32 outings finally came good as a favourite in the Ashwajaya Plate, the concluding race of the day. Maverical took off well from draw one to be in the lead close to the fence. On entering the final straight, Maverical extended the margin, moving away from the rest. Small Made improved to be second near the distance post and chased the winner thereafter. Young Gallant tracked Maverical till the straight and fell back under pressure when asked for more, to finish third.
